I'm now running Super Tech synthetic 0w20 oil as of about 3 months ago.
I think I'm going to have some of the used oil analyzed in the Spring to see how well it's doing for my engine.

Just out of curiosity, what brand of oil do you people run in your c?
There are a lot of people who say ST oil is as good as many name brands of oil.

whatever's on sale... ours has had castrol, quakerstate and pennzoil through it. Branding means nothing to me for car lubes. Walmart/Supertech is fine, we use that in the other car, been great for the past 75k miles or so.

I'm going to run Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic for a one year interval starting in the Spring.
I may also do a UOA on the 6 month old ST FS oil just to see how well it was lubing my engine and if I could have gotten away with running it for 12 months. Then I may use both ST and PP at 12 month intervals.

It doesn't seem as though most of you obsess over oil the way I tend to.
Oil is oil as far as the 1.5L ICE knows.
As long as we run 0w20 oil, that's the most important thing.

I'll just thank you now. I know that the effect of... people who carefully study motor oil, multiplied by an intensely litigious culture equals everyone selling anything even remotely approaching "bad" motor oil was sued down to ashes 40 years ago. Now only the best-funded of the bigs even try it. Knowing this, I feel free to chase sixty cent discounts on jugs of oil at the bigbox curbside, because there just isn't enough other difference from one brand to the next.

I’m using Toyota 0W20, purchased in bulk (bring my own container) through dealership service department. Cheap as dirt, I forget how much exactly, something like $2.50~3.00 CDN per litre. Typically I get 9 litres (doing my sons vehicle too). Pick up the oil filter and drain bolt washer while I’m there.

I really wish this “sales model” would catch on: I don’t like to think what happens to all the oil-contam’d empties created by DIY’rs .

What's the problem? It's a sack made of petroleum residue with a different kind of petroleum residue inside.

Lots of our waste is not even that well sorted or packaged.

Though if you wanted to promote it you could start by sharing the details of your container, storage requirements, maybe share information resources for the safety side, labeling guidelines etc?

I seem to have made up my mind to run Super Tech FS oil. I bought another 5 qt jug of it, just to stock up.
People tend to over think their oil and filter. I sure have. I think people also tend to change their oil before it needs to be changed.
I may run this fill of ST for 12 months. I may do a used oil analysis test on it after 6 months and see how it looks, then decide from there.
But I believe ST is as good as Quaker State or Castrol. Some people need to have the brand name, even when it costs more. I was like that but now I seem to have done enough homework and seen enough comments and videos so that I could arrive at this decision. Even the cheap $2.25 Federated PG4967 oil filters I've been using would most likely serve the purpose quite well.

I’m using a 2.5 US gallon (roughly 10 litre) No-Spill gas container. I don’t bother using the dispensing cap, just take it right off. It has gradations up one corner, which always correspond with the dealerships bulk oil metering dispenser. A piece of masking tape is applied to the side with the current oil weight. For measuring I use a graduated Dynaline pitcher. To avoid the hassle of cleaning after use I just cork the spout and slip a snug-fit plastic bag over the top.

I drained the remaining oil from the12 quart bag into these containers.
I'd definitely buy more ST FS oil in the 12 qt bag in a box.
Now I have another ST 5 qt jug to store oil in until I use it.
I can also recycle the used oil at Walmart and get my jug back.
I don't know of a dealer that would dispense bulk oil to me.
I'm fine with ST FS for about $2.50 per quart.

For the first 2 oil changes under Toyota Care program, the dealer used M1. After that I just use whatever brand with the best price as long as it is full synthetic 0W20. Most of that is Super Tech, and 2 times Toyota. Next oil change will be Amazon. I don't see any difference from oil in terms of car performance.

So far I have been always following the 10k miles OCI. However, I just noticed many discussions on line about the excessive oil consumption on Prius. This makes me concerned about my Prius C even though it has not shown any symptoms. I may adopt the 5k OCI.

Has anyone experienced excessive oil consumption on their Prius C, similar to Prius?
