I got rid of my car last year and since I haven't been driving recently for obvious reasons I haven't yet bothered replacing it.

Once Covid it over I was initially considering getting either a Prius AWD-e or Prime but now I'm thinking a UX 250h might be nice.

On paper the UX and Prius seem to have more or less identical features and aside from the UX having a bit more power I can't really see what the advantage of the UX over the Prius especially considering the fact that the additional power comes at the cost of fuel efficiency is.

I assume that the UX is probably more comfortable, quieter and better made but I'm not sure it's worth greater than $10k more than a Prius AWD-e with comparable specs.

I'm leaning more towards the AWD-e over the Prime since I really want AWD. Also since I live in the South Primes are really hard to find. Another possibility would be the RAV-4 Prime but that's even harder to get than a Prius Prime and even more expensive than the UX.

Does anyone here have any experience with both cars?

Never driven a UX. But glanced at one when it first came out - having had a Gen 4 for a couple of years. The 2 things which struck me immediately were the back seat - considerably smaller - and the boot too. Was end of story for me.

Neither of those things really matter much to me but thats good to know. I didn't realize that the UX was smaller than the Prius I just kinda assumed they were more or less the same size.

I was looking hard at the UX before going with an XLE AWD-e. Ventilated seats and height adjustable passenger seat primarily. A negative was the infotainment system... by comparison, I love the dead stupid Prius setup, since we do everything with CarPlay (and bought a wireless CarPlay adapter that works flawlessly). Ultimately, for the miles we drive a year — we’ll under 5K — it was difficult to justify the UX when we were able to lease the Prius for $339/month.

I do like ventilated seats. Not sure it's worth 10k more though.

I just went through the exact same decision.
I've been driving a Prius since 2008 and thought maybe it was time to look for a smoother, quieter ride.
I took out a UX and it is both smoother and quieter but you definitely pay a lot more for those improvements.
The Prius has comparable features and although it's not as nice a ride as the UX - it's still pretty good.

I was also struck by the difference in interior space. So surprised how small the UX is! Back seat is smaller and the trunk is almost unusable. Prius wins by a longshot on this.

I also wanted a Prime - but I'm from Canada and AWD-e was way more important to me. I hope they come together in the same package some day.

Anyway - my final choice - Prius AWD-e with Tech package (different names for Canadian models). Best value after weighing all the options.

Yeah I really like AWD as well although really I don't need it. I mostly just like the idea of having it just in case I do need it one day. Also I feel like it's one of those things that in certain situations you really wish you had when you don't.

Really there are only 2 features the UX has that the Prius doesn't that I really like and those are dynamic backup camera guidelines and automatic brake hold. Also in the US unfortunately you can't get the big center screen and Navigation on the AWD-e but in a way I think the smaller screen is in some ways better especially since I always use Carplay.

Not in the US for some reason. We also don't have power folding mirrors.

    :eek::eek::eek::eek:

And we can't get Auto Parking for some reason. (Nor a sunroof - which I'd hate anyway in the tropics.)

Weird how they've done different things around the world. Middle East gets a FULL SIZE Spare tyre!!!!

We also can't get a sunroof on the AWD in the US either. I was just checking out the Australian brochure and it's really weird how the feature sets are different. It looks like you guys can't get the big screen or AWD at all. Also we can't get the big screen or navigation in the AWD in the US but they can get it on the AWD in Canada however. Also it looks like you guys have an auto dimming rear view mirror which you can't get in the US.

Yep, mine was the "base" - had auto dimming rear view, auto headlights, HUD.

I so wish we had folding mirrors. In an urban environment it’s a really nice feature to have.

I’ve been thinking about getting a wireless CarPlay adapter for my 2021 Prius Limited. Which one did you get? Thanks.

    I got this one:
CPLAY2air wireless adapter for factory CarPlay on CARPLAY2air.com – CPLAY2air.com

has worked flawlessly. I stuck it with double sided tape onto the front of the center console so it’s out of view. The wireless connection adds maybe 10-15 seconds before my iPhone’s CarPlay shows on the screen. Combined with the wireless charging built into the Prius, it’s been a really nice addition.

Is the UX heavier? On my Prius I love the 15" wheels because they absorb the potholes really well and tires are cheap.

Yes. 3,605lbs for the base model UX250h AWD compared to the Prius LE AWD-e's 3,310 lbs

I had a stereo with wireless car play and actually didn’t like it. I bring my dog with me a lot and will keep her in the running car with the AC cranked while running errands. The phone stayed connected at times and found it better to just unplug each time
