    Just FYI

The wife frecked me out as she told glove box light is on all the time. She could see the light between the crack at the push button latch. Coarse that was in the morning before sunup and we were late for work. After work I checked and Daa the light is not on. Come to find out glove box light is on when parking lights are on regaurdless the glove box is open or not.

Yup - that's been a topic of discussion many times here on the site. Search for the threads and you'll find more than you want to know about it!

It's easier and cheaper to have an light in the glove box that is provided current whenever the headlights are on than to build in a switch with moving parts.

 ... and the light is an LED... almost negligible current required. NOT TO WORRY, one less mechanical component to possibly fail.

The more I get into this car the more it shows how well it was thought out. Now if I could just get some building designers to follow that lead. Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna ask the wife if the refrigerator light is on when the door is shut. ;)

And yet the wiring diagram shows a switch integral to the lamp assembly. Go figure.

 Do you have any idea how insanly simplistic such a switch would be? Price? Prob less then a buck. I love my Prius but little things like this are annoying. I've run across 3 or 4 of them so far in the last 2 week. Overall the quality of the car is great but for the love of god Toyota. Spend an extra $100 in the car. Considering I just blew 28 thousand on this car I think a feature that can be found in a car a third of its price is the least Toyota could do.

got that buck? if it's something that really bothers you, the instalation of a switch would really be simple (just cut the wire going to the bulb and solder in the switch)... i'm guessing under half an hour for dash dismanteling, finding the wire, soldering, and mounting the switch.

In all honesty, thats one of the things i love about the car - Toyota took care of all the major things and gve us something that performs great, but left some minor things slightly less than perfect. It gives me weekend projects :)

I probably will do just that...and probably a little more.
Actually more then anything I would like to put 2 same colored LED's in the top bin of the glove compartment. That way if someone needs to see something quickly they can just pop open the lid instead of blinding the driver (a.k.a me) by turning on the overhead light.
