Good evening. I purchased a cylindrical battery pack in November of 2019. Dr. Prius is indicating that a module is going out of balance.

I need to re-inspect my Installation, but cannot find the PDF file recieved at the time of purchase. I'd like to do this by the book and be absolutely safe about it. There is a hard-copy buried in a moving box, in a storage facility, 50 miles from me, not looking forward to emptying out that space to find it.

Would any Gen2 newpriusbatteriesbatteries customer be willing to provide a copy of their pdf? I searched the Files section of this forum and did not see anything. Thank you.

Thank you so much for sharing this document. I hope the issue is obvious and not too late to correct.I will update this thread when I get into the pack. Thank you and take care.

After letting the car sit over night, a overall measurement of the modules read 16.70 VDC. The variation was only + or - one tenth of a volt between a couple of modules ( module number 12, the one Dr Prius had identified as out-of-balance, was a solid 16.70).

The connection hardware is in good shape but I did find some corrosion forming on the outside edge of the ring terminal of module 14. After a baking soda cleaning, the hardware os being reinstalled to 60 inch pounds.

The only disappointment is that the protective caps would not pop-off easily and half of them ended up snapping.

Under what data? These aren't your average cells.

As I have said before the tests inside the app aren't really that great.

We have had some modules go out of balance, and so far all except 2 have been a loose connection. 1 of the outliers was damage in shipping where the module actually snapped. The customer took free shipping to CA and then shipped them in a USPS box to Hawaii with no padding. That was the issue. The other 1 might be a real failure which would be the absolute first. But I have no data on it yet. And that would be a sub 0.1%.

Should be able to send you some new end caps. I have spares.

Just my opinion, I personally hold no hope for their longevity sure they may be fine for a couple years but if I was buying a new pack I would expect nothing short of ten years maybe closer to 15 from an oem ..buy cheap buy twice and tbh they aren't even cheap! give it a couple years these will start dropping like flies.

Again this is just my opinion, I am a nobody and I can not move time forward! so we will have to wait and see..

Your opinion is rooted in the same logic as space lasers starting fires though. They aren't cheap because they aren't cheaply made. They are made to equal specification as the OEM packs. And even the OEM packs have some failures under warranty and even replacement packs under warranty.

You have the option to buy cheap new cylindrical cells from Alibaba or a distributor in the US. You cannot purchase our cells anywhere but from us because we manufacture them. That's why they exist. I'd be happy to help educate you on the differences or you can just read one of the many threads about it.

Haha good one until you can jump on your space lazer and shoot time forward we won't know

To me It's just new tec made from the old tec that toyota rejected sorry but wait and see, until someone makes a decent replacement option from modern technology I will leave these old things for the people that can afford to waste the money

I appreciate your offer, but I'm perfectly happy to pay for replacement. I tried as carefully as I could 2 pop them out gently. Maybe I'm just too rough handed

These are false statements and I'd ask for the last time you educate yourself before you continue your slander.

Not really meant to come on and off many times, it's not an issue. Send me a PM of where you want them and how many and I'll ship out free replacements.

Lol whatever buddy i haven't made any statements, I simply said in my opinion the longevity of these old cells is questionable, as it is..

I don't like cylinder batteries and do not recommend people buy them, but I'm just a nobody so why would anyone care what I think?

I am entitled to my opinion

Let's just wait and see hey

    yes you have made statements....

Whats the difference with cylindrical cells? Whats your problem with that? There actually smarter they will allow much better ventilation at the least. You have no empirical evidence of any issue with these cells. If you do please present them with the exception that your scared of round things.

I have a long experience with Chinese battery's they make an excellent product. I have used there cells for years on projects and never had an issue. I have some sad news for you bud the chinese make just about everything. They are a hard working brilliant race.

I have a very long experience with 2K on this site. I trust his opinion. I bet $1600 on it. He's a very good engineer and like me and all good engineers is quite grumpy lol....

any statements i have made are purely just my opinion, speculation just healthy banter i don't like this product, if you are going to sell any product you can and should expect some people will have their guard up, i don't like bamboo modules personally, going off what i see from Hondas and the issues with the very first prius (nhw10) Toyota moved away from them for a reason.

Although i have spoke to others that HAD them in their vehicle I have no personal experience with them and unless you want to pay me to test one, i wont waste my time! if its to be nimh i will stick with prisms, they work excellent, personally i think good used modules may last longer than these, again that's just my opinion (of which i am entitled) weather you like it or not

The reason their is more room for air as you mention ED is put down to their now being less battery volume in the pack lol and to be honest the pack was purposely designed (by Toyota mind you!) to move enough air via vacuum to suit the prismatic battery modules (that TOYOTA designed the pack for) and without a fan mod? what else can i say

I wont bother "arguing" any further, its just my opinion and its perhaps worth even less than these batteries lol take it or leave it, it wont change my life one little bit my car is running just fine, expect no further replies from me until i start unleashing the "I told you so's" and i don't want to mess up this poor blokes thread any further, sorry George..

cheers good luck with it George :)

When I purchased my Prius (2nd hand) it came with a refurbished pack. When that refurbish pack failled I went with cylindrical cells. Why? Because new cells made more sense to me than another set of reconditioned cells.

My Prius has run normally since installing them. I use Dr. Prius /Hybrid Assistant to get ahead of potential issues This is why I opened the case, and did find a very small amount of corrosion. My bad since I did the install.

With the case back together I'm hoping in time the affected module (#12) will come back into balance. Only time will tell
