I just bought a 2018 Prius Prime "Advanced" to replace my 2013 Plug-In. I was impressed with the larger screen and the JBL 10 speaker audio system...until I began to try to use Entune. I mistakenly thought it might have been improved since it was a disaster when I first tried it on the earlier model. Nope. Entune is even worse now. I read that after 2018, Toyota works with Apple CarPlay, but that's no help with my 2018 model.

So what do you all do with 11 inches of screen that does little but piss you off? Do you just turn the screen off? Is there any aftermarket solution? The rest of the car is excellent, but this huge screen in my face, reminding me of the weakest link every time I drive is making regret my purchase.

No help from me, but I too feel exactly the same about my 2017 "Advanced". The Toyota system is in direct contract to the Uconnect system in my 2015 RAM truck. While it does not have Carplay, the native system recognizes my voice asking to call a contact well over 95% of the time. All of the other controls are usable and understandable.

Anxious to hear if anyone has a real solution.

I have a 2017 and I have never been able to get the entune to work.

As for the big screen, it works fine as a road map, and when in reverse it is nice having the backing camera.

I just traded in 2017 PP Platinum with the 11.6" display for a 2020 PP LE with a 7" display. While I had 2017 PP, I did have the screen off most of the time. I never installed Entune on my phone, never updated the HU. AFAIK, there is no know aftermarket unit that works on the 11.6 system.

I hope that whoever came up with Entune was fired and banned from interface programming. Totally worthless piece of garbage that Toyota should be ashamed of.

I just leave my display on the map and usually have the climate control on the bottom.

While snooping around at the features shown on the screen, I have seen one feature for updating the 'map and traffic data' file. The current data file for this is dated to the date of manufacture of the vehicle.

Does anyone know if there is a way to upgrade that file?

    My dealership has no clue.

The dealer missed a sale. To update the maps and points of interest file, you buy a microSD card with a navigation database. Toyota’s Navigation Map application chart (PDF) says the current part number, as of August 2020, is 86271-GN8PR-20, list price $210.

Entune's horrible to put it mildly. I still use my screen for nav, radio controls, and backup camera, but that's about it.

It is horrible, the navigation system sucks, and voice recognition is poor. At least they now have an Alexa app after removing Pandora.
