Toyota oil burn theory

It must have been the turbo version. My non-turbo got up to 50mpg on the highway (one time I even measured nearly 60mpg) but it also had the acceleration of a freight train, especially here at altitudes of 5,000-12,000 feet above sea level. I even got pulled over once going up a steep hill at 8,000ft above sea level with the car fully loaded. The speed limit was 50mph and I was going 25-30mph. The officer was concerned there was something mechanically wrong with the car seeing how it was also billowing out black smoke.

But the car just would never die. I had more problems with door handles and CV joints than anything else. The only two things that happened to the engine was it blew an injector line once, and a fuel line once got loose and rubbed a hole through itself. This was the cheapest car to own and operate I've ever owned.

 

I forgot to mention several other high mileage older vehicles with original, non-rebuilt engines that do not burn oil. My grandfathers mid-80's Honda Accord with some 400,000 miles, our Ford Aerostar with over 300,000 miles, my Dad's 1996 Buick LeSabre with over 200,000 miles, my 1993 Mazda 323 I had with over 250,000 miles (and drove clear to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and back), and likely a few others if I think about it. There were also a couple vehicles that I'd drive at school, the company car to reach another school and my school bus, that both had over 200,000 miles and didn't burn oil. And I had to check the oil every day, so I would know if they did.

I'm pretty sure the Windstar had a different engine than the Aerostar. What I loved the most about our Aerostar we had when I was learning to drive is that it had a 5 speed manual transmission.
