'06 Roadside Assistance headache

Well, yesterday I ran out of gas and called the Roadside Assistance
to hear my car is not covered for free roadside service! ('06 with 1500 miles on it).

Apparently, Toyota has discontinued free 3 yr/36K miles Roadside Assistance on '06 Prius and later.

After about 10 phone calls to Toyota Customer Care, my dealership,
and having been asked to fax over my entire (that is 31 pages, 16 fax sheets), "2006 Pocket Reference Guide" where it clearly says 3yr/36K miles COMPLENTARY roadside service on page 29, Toyota has agreed to honor what is in their printed doc in the glove-box! One might wonder, if one has to fight the same way for other printed benefits like Warranty work.

My 2 cents: Very unimpressed with Toyota Customer care treatment of this matter, on the other hand very happy with my dealership's staff help and responsiveness. (Steven's Creek Toyota , San Jose, CA.)

If you need to fight the same battle with Toyota (but you must have the ’06 Pocket Reference Guide) I suggest referencing my case # as a reminder and save yourself a headache. Case #200610191179 withToyota Customer Care (1-800-331-4331).

BTW, for remaining gas calculations, assume the Prius tank holds about 10.2 gallon not 11.9 gallon as advertised (I know many others have reported not to trust 11.9G tank capacity verbatim).

Thanks for sharing this experience. I could never find the free roadside assistance 'phrase' in my '06 manuals, and yet wanted to take advantage if it was still offered on the 2006. Toyotal Customer Service responded by email that yes it was still covered, but still feels iffy. Have scoured my manuals, and don't think the "pocket" Reference Guide '06 was included in my pkg.

Well, I have a 2006 Prius, and I just reviewed the "2006 Pocket Reference Guide" (29 pages) that came with the car. There is no mention anywhere regarding Roadside Assistance. Page 29 has instructions for locating and removing the Spare Tire and tools. Maybe the guide has been modified? I took delivery on Sept 13, 2006. <_<

Ditto. My Pocket Reference Manual is labeled MN 00452-PRG06-PRI2, Printed in USA 10/05. I took delivery of my 06 Prius on June 12th 2006. It doesn't have the Roadside Assistance info, either.

Also, my Prius died two weeks ago on a Saturday morning. The service center was closed and the number for the "Experience Center" (same as in the owner's manual) gets a voicemail except M-F from 5am to 6pm PST. I paid for the special package that includes roadside assistance. WHERE'S THE FREAKIN' NUMBER?

Actually, it's here on PriusChat: http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=2530

    The Number is 877-304-6495.

I just got out the add on sticker for my 2006, delivered early August 2006, & this car which has the Toyota Plus Protection Group which does include - "Roadside assistance" & also "Emergency Towing" as well.
We did not pay for this Toyota Plus Protection as it was on a car that fit our needs & there was no way I'd pay $699.
Glad to know that we are covered !
    Later....

    Interesting -

I tried to find an accurate image of the 2006 Pocket Reference Guide on the interent for HBO6. The best I could come up with is the attached image of a 2005 Guide. You would think that the Toyota website would have a more up-to-date image!

In reading over the comments about this pocket guide, I have come to the conclusion that there must have been DIFFERENT printings of it! For instance, my page 29 sounds like it is similar to derk's. My guide also has the code: MN 00452-PRG06-PRI2 on the back. We purchased 6/9/06.

    I. too, have questioned the free towing. I called the 800 number & was told that it was discontinued in May '06.

One way to get free towing is to buy your extended warranty now. That is one of the features!

I think I pay about $2 per 6 months for roadside assistance as a line item in my regular car insurance. It's so cheap I kept it when I got my Prius, with its free coverage, because it allows me to call ANY roadside service provider, pay for the service, get a receipt, and file a claim. For me, this is more convenient than having to call Toyota and wait for the provider they decide to send. It also allows me to call several places, and take the one that has the shortest waiting time.

Even my 06 Prius pocket reference guide mentions Complimentary roadside assistance. And I know they had discontinued for 06 Prius. But i will remember that they are honouring what they have printed. Thanks to let us know. Btw; i bought mine early may 2006.
