Hi just wondering about plugs in old gen2 prius, will be servicing a couple old bangers! over the next coming months, it surprises me these old things are even still running, very "well used" cars at this stage of their lives i dont see any value in buying genuine iridium plugs they cost $80 - $100 a set at parts stores in AU

both cars have very, very old plugs that definitely need to be changed out, i have inspected they do not look or perform very well any more

Trying to decide between China iridium vs decent brand copper or platinum

The China iridiums will last about 25-30k miles on a good day.
Want me to buys a few sets of Denso's for you and ship 'em?
RockAuto has them for less than $6 each.

You should buy the China fake plugs. let us know how that goes when your car fails.

lol ED why thankyou i will take that as a compliment :)

To be serious though, why not? people spend Thousands on other non genuine parts (like batteries) that will be lucky to last half the time the original did, and it takes hours of messing around to fit those, i can swap a full set of plugs in a gen2 in about 12 minutes

the price difference here in Australia is significant, i can get platinum plugs for about $3 each, Chinese copies will cost me MORE than you can get genuine iridiums.

For an old 08 with dents in every panel that's misfiring on the 570,000km original plugs, in overall rather poor condition .. the poor old thing might last another 50 - 80,000km if its REALLY extremely lucky, does it deserve $100 worth of genuine iridium plugs, honestly? .. not at $20au each :)

Thanks TMR, much appreciate the kind offer to ship me some, and if the car was worth it i would take it on but by the time we fart about and pay freight etc, its just not worth the hassle tbh

I dont mind if they do not last as long, i do mind however if they are known to cause serious problems

I agree. The fact you have to buy second class plugs for an old car is because you cant rise up and defeat your British masters. We beat them a long time ago.

pfft lol unfortunately that is well out of my control!

Half the problem here is, I just like saving things from the junk yard..

Genuine iridiums could actually be worth more than the car
