Best of luck with your Chinese plugs mate. You get the government you vote for.

CHeers mate, i am pushing away from China Iridium and heading towards local brand Platinum, hopefully the Prius can energize them properly as im sure they wont be as efficient

Hey Matt, given what you have said, I would probably just use regular (read cheap) copper spark plugs and change them every 30,0000 km. You'll still be quids ahead. I agree with your assessment that these Prii aren't worth long-life iridium plugs.

Thanks Dolj :) yeah if I put iridium in this particular old car they would probably end up at the scrap yard with about 96% of their useable life left in them! I can not stand waste hence my obsession for fixing up these old cars in the first place!

there is a clearance deal on platinums at one of our leading auto parts stores at the moment, is there any reason not to use those over coppers?

If you can get them for a similar price as standard copper plug, then why not? Even if they were twice the copper price it would make sense if the car would go another 95,000km.

I don’t know about your Bosch question. I’ve never used Bosch myself. You would need look up a manufacturers cross reference table to find the equivalent of the OEM Denso or NGK.

    Cheers for that dolj :)

Ended up with two sets, FR7DPX for a couple bucks ea and FR8DC+ for 0.90c ea

Not optimum head rating on the 7s and may need to adjust the gap but meh, it might compensate for the mileage lol

    No worries.

It would be useful if you could do a follow-up post on how the car went on those plugs. I, for one, would be interested in that.

Too easy Dolj definitely will, be quite surprised if these plugs die before the cars do

Been wondering if the fr7dpx will help a little with engine ping, or just foul. From what i understand of it (Bosch) heat range 7 would be a closer match for a gen3, they are one stage colder than the recommended Bosch plug for a gen2 which is range 8, all other spec seem to be the same from what i can tell, just not iridium.

FR8DC+ should be fine for a gen2 re-gapped to 1.1mm, all other spec seem to be the same, other than not iridium.

btw I did not purposely select these plugs they were simply what was dramatically discounted for clearance at our local parts store
