A “pipe” on a Atkinson cycle CVT powertrain sounds horrible and sophomoric. It’s worse than the typical kid move of putting one a V6 mustang/Camaro.

    My 2 cents.

I am sure that will take care of it. I don't know how much is your deductible is, but I am sure the repair cost will be much higher than that.

My comprehensive deductible is 500$. Will doing so make my rate go up? I don’t know how it works. Only time I ever was at fault for anything (knocks on wood) was back in 2012 and my rates went up, but that was collision of course. Actually a lady hit ME Bc I was poking out into an intersection Bc I couldn’t see around a snowbank, ironically.

Got it. Again I am just throwing around ideas. Never been in this situation. Had no intention of messing with the exhaust. Just wanted to make it look physically nicer eventually.

It depends on the insurance company, I think. My insurance company GEICO did not change the rate after I had to use the comprehensive to replace the front windshield early on my ownership of the 2017 PP. I had a no-deductible comprehensive policy and the windshield replacement and recalibration cost was well over $1K, no cost to me.

Insurance companies ALWAYS write stuff down when you make a claim.....even a "free" glass claim.
I know a person who was visited by their agent at home (back when they did such things) who recommended that they get a windshield crack repaired for "free." No raise in rates, he said.
Then.....they had another glass claim a year later.
Everything was everything.....until this person's truck was totaled by an uninsured driver.

The insurance company paid off the truck, and then dropped my friend for excessive claims.
His rates were stratospheric for years after that.
They actually lofted a complaint to the state insurance commission, which went the approximate distance to the nearest circular file.

FORTUNATELY.....PA only requires you to file an accident report for incidents not investigated by the Po-Po when there is injury or "severe" damage.
Some states require accident reports for relatively small accidents and insurance companies sometimes will require an accident report to differentiate between a "collision" and a "comprehensive" claim.
Since you were operating the vehicle, and you collided with something that caused damage this WILL be a collision claim as far as most insurance companies are concerned, and since there was only one driver the question of who is at fault is easily answered!
Comprehensive vs. Collision Coverage: What's The Difference?

Even IF this does get covered as a comprehensive claim (hail damage under the car?) and doesn't make it into your vehicle's bio when it comes time to sell - it's gonna get written down somewhere.

    Folksy Anecdote:

I knew a young couple that I may or may not be related to, who found out that the 4x4 truck that they bought from a friend was in a collision such as yours was in. It did not involve an accident report but the incident WAS asked about when the young couple were getting home owners quotes for the refi loan, because the prospective new home owner policy issuer thought that they "forgot" about a claim on their vehicle.
    Unrelated?
NOT, it would appear as far as the insurance company is concerned. ;)

Different states and different companies have different laws and regs.
Some states prostrate themselves before lobbyists, while others represent their citizenry more or less faithfully - so actual mileage WILL vary.

Having said ALL of THIS about all of that, I believe that I would get a hard quote from a muffler shop before I called the insurance company.

Welcome....but always remember to verify junk you hear on the internet.... ;)
    Sometimes 'free' advice.....isn't.

My baby girl struck a deer once upon a time on her way home from work.
By the insurance company's reckonings "she hit the deer" since the damage was on the nose of the vehicle, whereas I've had co-workers with stove-in quarter-panels from deer strikes have their claims covered by comprehensive insurance - or nothing....depending on the age of the vehicle....because the deer obviously hit the vehicle.

Some states require a report for deer strikes in order for the carcass to be claimed by the driver, while others disallow all such claims....or have no rule whatsoever.
Some states require an accident report with damages as low as $250. My beloved home state of Indiana is $1,000.
    Sometimes CARFAX works.
Other times....(such as the 4x4 mentioned in the story above) it does not.

    As they always say.....
    "Actual Mileage will vary" ;)

When you go to sell your car some day.......and unless you're a fool you WILL sell it rather than trade it in.....you will want to be truthful and honest about your vehicle's service history.
It's MUCH easier to do so if your car isn't tagged with a "minor accident" flag on something like CARFAX.
This is the automotive equivalent of "minor social disease" on a dating site.

Is someone were HONEST enough to tell me about running over something and damaging a muffler I would be much more apt to believe the claims of regular oil changes and easy driving.

    YMMV

I actually have Geico insurance. Should I call them ask them what they consider a massive Boulder of ice and snow in the road is considered?

Two other things I’ve noticed getting under the car today and moving it bc of the snow:

    1) A piece of black plastic, kinda flimsy and thin was broken & was hanging by a thread so I pulled it off. It’s black and light, and kind of deep. Like it covers something (exhaust pipe?). It was under the passenger side of car all the way to the end (If you had X ray vision it would be located like in between the front and rear doors) - I’ll snap a pic and post it in a few.

    2) My steering alignment is WAY off now. The wheel needs to be turned half way to the left when you are driving completely straight. And I just had an alignment done at Toyota early January! Arghn

Interesting- so since the muffler and it’s
tip is fine; I guess my best bet is to see if an exhaust shop can fabricate new piping and see how much they’d want? If it’s anywhere close to $425 ish I’d rather just pay $480 shipped for a brand new OEM one, which I should be able to do myself as I’ve done plenty of exhaust swaps in the past.

Plus a quick check on eBay shows OEM
2017-2021 Prius Prime mufflers going for $150 as high as $300, muffler itself. I wouldn’t expect to get $300 but hey you never know.

According to the picture the OEM muffler includes the pipe so msrp is over $514. This dealer’s online price is $125 off.

Here are a couple pics of the plastic piece that was dangling and it’s approx location circled under the car. I saved it and brought it in the house. Lol

That’s not correct, there are several JDM aftermarket exhausts that sound great. I have Tanabe exhaust one my car.

I deleted my previous post, as I saw it was too harsh regarding "tricking out" our Prii. Been there, done that with cars, boats, and planes.

My insurance says it has to hit you for them to cover it. So I have learned to always use the correct language.

The deer charged me from the side of the road!
The tire from the Semi truck came rolling down the highway at me and both lanes were full of vehicles on each side.

In your case the giant snow man rolled ice balls at me.

So I got under the car and it appears everything is ok exhaust wise from the cat and forward. I did notice the bolts connecting it look a little odd, the black one there - is there a certain weird socket I need to get in order to remove them connecting to the cat? Pic:

Looks like a hex key from that photo.
