I have a 2012 v 5 w/ATP which has until recently been a great car. But after a water pump failure it seems that unrelated things keep going wrong. This time it's the head unit: it no longer turns on at all. Fortunately the car works without it, so we took it in to the dealer. We bought the car from them and they've performed all of the maintenance over the years except for tires. (Not that it really matters, but we have bought two other Priuses from them as well.)

Anyway, the dealer wants $3300 to replace the head unit. On one hand, that seems within the realm of reason for a factory replacement bespoke part (and I'm sure the ATP head unit is different from the others). On the other hand, I would think that there must be at least a couple of used units floating around, but outside of searching on ebay I'm not sure how I would find them. I don't think the dealer has any incentive to use anything other than the factory part.

Would anyone have any advice, or idea what a reasonable cost for this repair would be?

Curious, what all depends on the "head unit"? I'm thinking just carry on without it, depending on what it does, what you're missing. Back up camera? Nav?

    My dash looks like this:

Your dash looks a bit different than that of a Prius v.

The head unit contains the radio and nav unit and of course the screen is used for display of the backup camera. Fortunately in this model the climate control interface is separate. In my old 2007 model, as well as my 2017 Prime, the climate control is changed through the screen. And the screen in the 2007 model died as well, but was replaced under warranty (although the dealer was not happy because according to them the part cost $7000). I don't want to think how much it would cost to replace the screen in my Prime.

In any case, if anyone has any idea how much this really should cost, or has any advice on locating a used part, I would appreciate it.

eBay is a good first option on availability and pricing

Type in "Toyota E7034" on eBay and you will found low cost used head units and a company that advertises that they repair them for $219.

Another company that repairs them and is well known is HiTech: Car Audio Video Navigation Service Center - Hi-Tech Electronic Services

It's unusual for a head unit to not turn on at all. Silly question but has there been a check to see if the unit is getting power?
