    Hi guys,

I replaced the 12V battery yesterday on my 2012 Prius C, but in the process broke 3 of the plastic retainer clips that secure the cover in place (under the rear passenger seat, in front of the battery). Called my local dealer, and found the part number for them is 9046708226. They sell them for $3 CAD ea, so hopefully I can find a cheaper generic option from amazon.ca. I found the dimensions for them on a Japanese site, just wondering if anyone else found a good replacement part?

For me it's $1.35 CDN apiece from here, plus $37.66 shipping . Typically that's ALL the extras I've incurred, using them, JUST the shipping, no tax, no duty. It'd make sense if you were needing other items, but hey...

I would just bite the bullet, get through dealership, you know you're getting the right one. It's the cost of a couple of hot chocolates at Starbucks.

A paint can pry tool is good for easing these fastener centres up without breaking:

And wash them out with soapy water, work the mechanism, to prevent them jamming in future.

Yeah... Those clips are really cheap and are easily broken. As I always say the main difference between professional & DIY car work is the professional has extra parts of everything so instead of driving around to hardware stores, they just go grab a spare off the shelf.

I'd recommend you order this for $9 and then if you don't want all the extra pieces it comes with myself or someone else will buy the pieces you don't want to keep: 146Pcs Fender Door Hood Bumper Trim Clip Body Retainer Assortment For Toyota | eBay

Note that these wont be an exact match in how they look and function, but they will work without issue and you'll have more than one so you can swap them all out with these and they'll be more durable then the ones the car came with.

Also long nose needle nose, both the bent and straight version and a pair of small dykes can work pretty well too. But whatever you do, don't use the tool they make just for this purpose as that's not DIY enough.

As for going through a Toyota Stealership, why pay near $20 for a little piece of plastic that cost less than 1/10th of penny to make? Just buy this for $9 and share the abundance of extra pieces with all your helpful friends on PriusChat: 146Pcs Fender Door Hood Bumper Trim Clip Body Retainer Assortment For Toyota | eBay

He needs 3, and they’re $3 CDN apiece, say $6~7 USD. And they’ll fit for sure.

I appreciate what you’re saying, just weighing the hassle vs cost.

When I asked O'Reilly employees to check my battery's health last year, they broke those clips. I managed to find some to fit from an assortment of different size clips I bought on ebay earlier for Toyota. They are not identical to the stock ones though.

FWIW, one needs to push in the center portion of the stock clips to loosen them. They can be broken if one tries to pry out the center.

Most pry up, a few push inward, to release.

I've spent way too many hours driving around trying to match plastic plugs for old hybrid cars and in some case they were selling for more than $5 a piece and cars like Gen 1 Honda Insight are literally held together by these dangs things and when you need lots of them it's a huge rip off compared to buying in bulk online. And yes I can't stand the fact I'll never use most of the plastic pieces that come in those bulk packages and I'll quickly run out of the good ones that I'll actually use and end up buying more of these packages soon.

Found a Japanese site which says the /Mazda 2-226 clip is compatible with the Toyota one, and it gave me different measurements:
    71hlfB7x7PL._AC_SL1200_[1].jpg

I ended up buying a kit of 400+ clips from amazon.ca for $17, and found part XB59 worked for me. And yes, I know I could've spent only $9 if I got 3 clips from the dealer, but I can't justify that cost. So now I have a bunch of extras for a rainy day or a friend :). 494c8806a75c7e68dfdbd9b9da9720f247fb224c_original.jpeg
