Considering this to replace our 2019 Leaf when it comes off lease in ~1.5 years. Want to keep one of our two vehicles a hatch.

3 years free charging will be attractive to many - will probably get some apartment dwellers with poor/no home charging infrastructure off the fence. Will be interesting to see what lease deals become available here. Heat pump would be nice, but in our case not a big issue as would be secondary vehicle and not used for long distance trips.

Interesting vehicle. Wish the cargo area was flat with rear seats flipped down. I've got a soft spot for VW, the restrained styling, and love the smell of the interior, takes me back.

Where are you seeing otherwise? On the official website it looks flat to me (under interior gallery):

Just going by 4:35 in first posted video. Was not able to find interior gallery in link, maybe due to antiquated iPhone 5.

IIRC I watched another video, where flipped down seats looked similar. Who knows, maybe pre-production car?

Further googling, I DO see pictures where the seat backs lay flat. I'm guessing reviewer in first video had front seats back so far that rear seat back headrests hung up on them?

At 6:50 in the video linked on this page:

    Volkswagen ID.4 First Drive Review

Reviewer notes the rear seats fold down almost flat, close enough to not really impede loading stuff.

Not sure if it's linked above, sorry if it has.

It has not. Thanks for the video.

It looks "almost flat". There's a slight rise but like you said, not enough to impede loading.

The legroom numbers are very impressive. In a compact SUV, we're looking at midsize sedan levels of space - 41.1" of front legroom and 37.6" of rear legroom. (1045mm front and 954mm rear).

In that video reviewer notes engine and firewall are really pushed forward , with aim to increase cabin space.

Yes. That’s why when I read about all those “why isn’t there a frunk” comments, I shake my head. I mean, they just transferred the space into the cabin for more passenger space and/or more cargo.

It’s basically like the Gen 2 Prius and its short hood. It had a ton of space inside given its exterior length.

It also has the turning circle of a Prius according to Canadian material.

Model Y drag coefficient is 0.23 and iD.4 is 0.28. Still, that's a pretty big gap in efficiency.
