Anyone else getting these when you leave a page on the forum. It doesn't happen every time. It started a few days ago. The ads vary but all have the same format. They blow right by my ad blocker.

Adblockers make money from advertisers to unblock certain ads.

Better to block ads using host file, blocks all ad servers, not individual ads.

Blocking Unwanted Connections with a Hosts File

Ublock Origin extension also uses the same host file.

Other Programs using the MVPS HOSTS file

I’ve seen those interstitial pop-up ads, too, and while I realize @Danny has to eat, they are annoying and make the site more difficult to use.

Once upon a time, advertisements were also serving up malware to a few users. Though for me, they made a slow internet pipe even slower. And counted against (at that time) my monthly byte cap.

What ever happened to Danny's thoughts on this long-ago idea?

Being an ad-blocking freeloader, who hasn't bought from the PC Shop in many years, I do owe him some other funding.

Yeah! I'd pay gladly for what this site offers rather than have ads.

BTW, I changed ad blockers yesterday. So far, so good.

I first adopted an ad-blocker (on my pc) a few years back, when PriusChat ads made the site literally unnavigable.

I've been thinking about that one. I should give it a try. I'm the web master for our organization so it's good to test the site on various browsers.

Edit to add that I found this review to be very helpful.

After a weekend at home using the Ghosterly Light ad blocker and getting none of those popups, I come to the office this morning and check in with PC before I start the day and guess what! Within a few minutes, I get another one of those popups like at the start of this thread. So now I know that 1Blocker doesn't work. It's gone and now I'm running the Ghosterly Light extension on Safari on both computers.

Hey Jerry, I'm seeing those pop ups on an iPhone, with increasing regularity. Happens when I click on a link to head to another PriusChat page. Using Safari, no AdBlock.

Nop. I have not seen any ads on PC pages both on Chrome browser on Chromebook or Firefox browser on Win10. I have AdBlock on Chrome and Adblock Plus on FF. It may be Mac-specific behavior.

Don't see them on a Windows 10 PC, using Firefox with Ghostery (ad blocker).

Yeah, Brave is great for privacy. I use Brave on my anonymous Win10 box as a default browser and also on my Android phones. I can't use it on Chromebook and I have to use FF on my work Win10 box.

There are already several ads on the pages. Danny adding the interstitial ads will just direct people elsewhere. Dies @Tideland Prius have any insight into this change?

So far, I've only seen one of them since switching to Ghosterly Lite. Why just one is kind of mysterious.

I really don't mind the ads that just sit there and hope I'll notice them. I can respect that. But when they jump in your face or slow down your work, then they become too much like spam phone calls.

Ive been having this issue several years, I ended up blocking all webpages except sites in a list I made.

Somewhat irritating but now I don’t get interstitial ads continuously since everything is blocked

Keeping that list synced on multiple devices though would be a challenge.
I regularly use 2 Windows laptops and 2 iOS devices.
