Best full synthetic 5w40 for 2012 for the money?

Could very well be true. That characteristic has never been on my list, but maybe I'll add it.
There are times when changing oil or transaxle fluid that you get a pretty good whiffffffff of old fluid and it just about makes you want to yack...

 

this oil is a stinker right from the tap.

 

Well now we have TWO parameters to check for "bad" oil.
Turns dark after running just a few miles.
And smells bad.
What will we think of next ??

 

Eneos is my personal choice for engine oil. I’ve ran it in all of my Toyota cars and I can always tell a noticeable difference in engine performance, quietness, MPG, and just overall feel. It’s a little on the expensive side, but worth every penny IMO.

 

Good oil the Subaru turbo fans use that oil rave about it. They talk about it over at Bitog now and then. Like $9 a quart?
They all say the same thing I can feel it.

The fact is there’s some really good oil choices out there they just cost more.
There is a next level above mobil1. There’s a better way.

Redline oil is unique in that when you rub it between your fingers it feels like liquid plastic very strange stuff.

that level of $$$ oil makes your engine run much better and keeps it incredibly clean internally. If it didn’t I wouldn’t spend it.

 

I get 5qts of Eneos at NAPA for like $35 with a AAA discount. It is also widely used as the go-to synthetic oil in Japan for many applications from what I have read. I also had good experience with Redline -- I used to run their fluids in my tranny and diff for my Mustang GT that I had.

 

because high concentration of addictives are added to the point that sn+ and api won’t even approve this oil for regular consumers. On average, this oil has zinc 1,200 ppm. Sn+ says no more than 700-800 ppm, if more then no seal of approval so these bottles don’t have the sn+ seal. The oil has a special additive that keeps metals suspended so it doesn’t flow into other metal on metal contacts. When you factor in other lubricanting and detergent addidtives added, the overall oil is thicker

I use this redline myself & sent a sample to blackstone labs to test the oil, received amazing result so it’s just not placebo effect

 

havent done that myself but I heard the physic property of that helps the oil cling onto partially submerged spinning metal parts.

Chevron Delo XSP 5w-40 Synthetic is a good oil at $22.00 USD on Amazon for a gallon (4 quarts). It's dual rated for both Diesel and Gasoline engines. Notice the API rating of CK and SN on the bottle, SN (Spark Ignition) is the rating for gasoline engines. I use this on a few older gasoline cars of mine, they run quieter and smoother with it.

Mobil 1 0-40 European Formula is another good 40w oil you could use at $25.00 USD on Amazon for a jug (5 quarts)


Personally, I'd do an oil change with a synthetic 5w-30 and keep track of how much oil you burn every 1K miles. If you burn less than or even slightly over a quart by 5K, I'd stick with it, as all cars burn some oil, especially higher mileage cars.

I use Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 synthetic in my Prius. It's very cheap at $20.00 a jug (5 quarts), is a trusted name brand and it's normally almost twice the price at the auto parts stores. Amazon must have a deal with them.
