    Still at 150k.

Adding a stereo, and fixing minor bodywork.

I am assuming if he knew the car had a shelf life of only 6 years and just over 100k miles, he would have opted for something else. He has every right to be upset. I am browsing through here now because I find myself in the exact same scenario, albeit my 2012 prius C has 139k miles on it. Still not enough milage for this to be acceptable. I don't know yet the fate of my prius because I haven't taken it in. But if it's similar to this then yeah I'll be pissed

Hello. Funny (not funny) but I also had the same check hybrid battery lights etc start coming on randomly in my 2012 prius C. Started about 6 months ago and as a temporary band aid, I just unhook the 12v battery and pull safety plug from hybrid battery, wait like 15 minutes, then back in business. Then, my front door locks stopped working and sometimes the stereo is wonky. I'm still on the original 12v battery so common sense days maybe that's the root of the problem? I took that theory to the toyota dealership today and they couldn't even look at it because it wasn't in the death lights phase of things. I had just unplug/plug yesterday to routinely drive to toyota today. They want me to bring it back when the system burbs again and so the check hybrid lights are on. She said it would be at least $170 to put the battery on a system diagnostic. I'm having difficulties trusting the dealership. Did your prius have any similar side symptoms like mine? I'm worried my fate might mirror yours when I take it back in

    Lessons learned:
    1)
When the 12v battery starts to fail,
Don't wait - just replace it.
Suitable batteries are availible from $170 (pepboys and others) / (bend the bracket if you want the larger more common size)
(Be Careful, Amazon offers to sell a completely wrong size)

    2)
If the Traction Battery has failed and you are SURE because you have the diagnostic printout from the dealer:

    A) try to get it replaced by Toyota under the emissions warranty. (Warranty length depends on where your car was originally sold?)
    B) If you can't get it replaced for free, negotiate the price with the service manager.
    * $2,300 is a fair price for a new OEM unit installed at a Toyota Dealer.

    C) If you need a lower price:
buy a low-mileage replacement ($900) from a reputablable salvage yard and install it yourself. (40 mins...)
