Well, I haven't posted since December 2011, which is the month I bought my first Prius (a 2007). Started out at 85K, and now...it's sitting at a repair shop with 255K. But it's done. I had a tire blow out last week, ran off the road, and the car is torn up underneath. According to the mechanic, both oil pans have to be replaced, there's an A/C line torn in half, and they believe there is engine damage, which they said won't be determined until everything else is fixed ($1,500 total). If the engine has problems, then we're talking way more money.

However, the hybrid battery was replaced at 135K with a refurbished one, and my MPG was still good. The cat is dead, though (but not stolen). There is a fantastic repair place in Charlotte, and although I couldn't get the car to him, I did call and discuss it. He did not recommend repair, and I trust him completely. He's not buying cars for parts right now since he has plenty in stock.

This leaves me with scrapping the car or trying to find someone who could use the battery and other parts. Would Craigslist be the best option for that? The problem is that the car will be at my house - it can't be driven - and I don't want some stranger coming here. Should I scrap it and avoid the trouble?

By the way: I am mechanically inept, so anything involving self-repair is not happening.

Thank you all so much...I've used the site often over the past few years and always found my answer without having to post anything. This time, I saw the Craigslist option, but wondered if there was anything else which might work.

Sorry for the loss, hate when that happens. Do you have any pictures to share?

Curious which make/model of tire this was, as I won't be buying those any time soon.

@TMR-JWAP might be interested in this gen2.

I don't remember the tire model...the car is still at the repair shop. I'm trying to delay another towing bill, It was some generic brand. I used to get Michelin Energy Saver tires, but couldn't justify the expense with the last set I bought given the miles on the car. The hole was huge, and was on the outside of the tire. If I had enemies, the first thought would have been a shotgun. Come to think of it, I do live in a rural area. :cautious:

Funny that you mention TMR-JWAP; I saw that user name several times during my search this morning.

I live in Greenville SC and I would be interested in buying the car.
