    Yep, that's the plan...eventually. Just not ready for a BEV yet. (y)

    I wonder what the warranty will be like on the Ioniq 5? Hyundai really tries to push the warranty on their vehicles.

    Somewhat sadly, CARB States never CREATED /mandated longer warranties on EV's, like they do on phev's. It wasn't till the Nissan Leaf became a giant fail, due to many early model batteries losing massive capacity/range within the first couple years - that the issue of potential capacity loss became reality. Seems like all manufacturers now have a warranty on capacity loss ..... some more than others.

    Those extended warranties CARB got on hybrids were based upon their powers in regulating car exhaust emissions. Doing something for BEVs may have been over reach, and something brought up for FCEVs if they made a move.

    At one point, that warranty page says there's a lifetime warranty on the battery, to the original owner. I'd love to read the fine print on that.

    The Lifetime Hybrid/Electric Battery Warranty ensures that if the lithium-ion polymer battery fails, Hyundai will replace the battery and cover recycling costs for the old battery free of charge to the original owner. The Lifetime Hybrid/Electric Battery Warranty excludes coverage for vehicles placed in commercial use (e.g., taxi, route delivery, rental, etc.). Warranty is non-transferable and not valid on exported vehicles."

    Yea - that's the thing ...... 99.95% of traction batteries don't "fail". They slowly (or quickly) die of capacity loss. If the warranty is silent, the dealer simply tells you - "sorry" when your car no longer travels 300 miles .... capacity loss is "normal". 50% capacity loss in only 45K miles? Too bad sonny.
    If a manufacturers' battery product can't maintain a minimum of 80% range (kWh's) for at least 100K miles - then it's not much of a warranty. And if the warranty is silent - beware.

    According to the Hyundai warranty link a few posts above, it appears that Hyundai isn't even offering a 'lifetime' battery warranty anymore anyways. I agree though...a 'lifetime' battery warranty is of questionable use anyway.

    It says "2012-2019 Hybrid Battery Warranty"

    It appears 2020+ model years get a "10-Year/100,000 mile" warranty.

    When the Model 3 came out, I, like many, complained about having the display, even the speedometer, off to the side. "This is so different--how can they do this? It will never work" everyone, including me, was saying.

    Then I thought about it some more and realized that my 2002 Gen 1 Prius had a speedometer off to the side and it only bothered me the first few times I drove it and that's only because it was different than what I was used to.

    Thinking about it some more, I think the thing you should be looking at the most while driving is the road in front of you, and the least distractions from that the better. I think having the speedometer only in your peripheral vision is actually a good thing.

    With LCD screens getting so cheap with phones and flat screen televisions in high production, the temptation is to put them everywhere in the car, and Hyundai did exactly that with a large digital display to the side and in front of the driver, along with a HUD!

    I don't own a Tesla, but I think their approach is better--nothing in front of the driver except the view of the road. Maybe a small HUD could be a useful addition. But note that you can get an off-market HUD for the Tesla, and I don't see anyone buying them.

    If you don't care about your speed.

    As I said, they're on airplanes because they so greatly improve situational awareness.

    It's such a huge improvement over a regular dash that I now consider it an essential safety feature. And a regular dash is a huge improvement over Tesla's stuck-on tablet.

    We may have to agree to disagree, but I think it is possible to care about your speed and to have the speedometer off to the side. And anyone who drives a Prius should recognize this.

    I drove a second gen Prius for 13 years. The HUD in my Prime is a VASTLY superior solution to both control speed and maintain situational awareness. It's not close. And the second gen's solution was substantially better than that in a Tesla 3 or Y.

    Doesn't seem many commercial planes actually have HUD. The 787 was the first to have it standard. On others, it is an expensive option that is usually skipped over. If there was a measurable advantage to them, airlines would pay the price.

    They're very common on private jets, single-pilot operated planes and military planes. Airlines are all about lowest cost and with two pilots it's not as important.

    Even with iPads and four large tablet displays, two of which are directly in front of the pilots, both pilots still have HUDs. There's a reason for that - situational awareness.

    Thanks. Yeah, I just read that article right before coming back to this thread to reply. Unfortunately, the article is much more about the design philosophy of two cars, but not so much about the specs. I guess the details are not published yet. Somehow I have a feeling that Kia EV6 is going to be quite a bit more expensive than Ioniq5, but I maybe wrong.
