Me and my uncle did a headgasket job on his 2010 Prius hybrid. Everything meant pretty smooth he only had a rough start up before the job and slight white smoke. I just recently graduated from automotive school and did every checklist I could think of. Followed the oem timing chain specs and even got the crank pulley lined up with the timing cover mark. Upon start up there is quite a harsh knocking noise coming from the top end of the motor. I just realized I didn’t torque the crank pulley bolt to spec. Could that be my issue ?

Isn’t that pulley just “along for the ride”? I’d say snug it up to be sure, but got a feeling you’ll be needing to pull it off again soon. Timing chain tensioner didn’t release, or chain is off by a tooth??

The codes I got after were p0102 and p3190

    historic faults are p0113/p3191/

He sprayed out the manifold with brake clean but forget to take out the maf sensor probably why I’m getting one of those faults. Also do I need to pull timing cover to reset tensioner or should I pull the cover just to be safe ?

Did you change the air filter? I had the same problem but after changing the filter, the car no longer misfires at startup. Now is just sputters randomly when going up certain hills(which I believe is also a misfire as well). I believe I may need to change an O2 sensor and MAF. Did changing the filter help?

The air filter seems clean nor damaged problem might be from the maf since it was sprayed out. I’ll keep the thread posted when I work on it again
