2005 JBL Premium Sound, Front Speaker Blown

    My center speaker still sounds fine (at the moment). I think my driver’s door speaker is the only one with a faulty surround at this time. But I suspect the surround on that center channel speaker might also fail from sun & heat exposure. After I fix the driver’s door speaker I’ll take a careful listen to each individual speaker. Music with sustained low bass notes quickly reveals faulty surrounds (pipe organ or “drum ‘n bass” for example).

    The centre speaker is really easy to connect and disconnect. Just a flatblade screwdriver to lift up the cover, then gently pull up, locate the wire and press the pin to remove. Then just snap the speaker and surround back into place on the dashboard.

    Yes, for removing the Prius door panels to get ot the speakers which may have bad foams etc, there are youtube videos like this one:


    For the center speaker, after you disconnect, if the assembly rattles like mine does, you can stick a bit of insulating material in between the pieces of plastic -- or a paper napking will do in a 'pinch', as I did.
