For better or worse, I just bought an extended warranty

I canceled the non-Toyota one that my dealer had (deceptively in my mind) sold me, and found another dealer through whom to buy a Toyota, 8yr/125,000 mile, no deductible warranty, for what I guess was a decent price ($1,950). I guess, to me, the peace of mind is worth it. Did I overpay? Be gentle lol

I bought a Toyota dealer offered 5 year 125000 mile maintenance agreement at the time of purchase for $3090. I think you did quite well. Course, it all depends on what is and what isn't covered. There is that fine print that needs studying. I usually don't go for any of those extended warranties or buyer protection plans. In this case, with all the electronic wizardry that may or may not be reliable, I took the chance. Like any insurance, you will only need it if you don't have it.

I got the Platinum, which covers the most things.

I also usually do not get an extended warranty, but I am like you about the complicated aspects of a hybrid.

Mine is their platinum plan also. My only concern, now that I've read it over again, is the warranty period. Seems like the "extended" should start after the original factory warranty expires at 3 years or 36,000 miles. I've essentially paid for double warranty coverage for the 3 years/36000 miles and acquired additional warranty coverage for 2 years/125000 beyond that. With my driving habits, the factory warranty will be gone in a little over a year anyway. So maybe this will work out for me. Time will tell.

If you change your mind, the Toyota warrantees can be returned for pro-rated amount of unused time left on the deal.
