I used a local auto audio installer to add fog lamps under the original fog lights - the 2010 Prius III did not come with the lower lamps.

Now, the original fog lamps only work as directionals or as the hazard light flasher.

I could swear these lights worked when I switched on the lights to the fog lamp position before the new lamps were installed. Am I wrong about this?

This is what the installer emailed me after I asked about this - "Hi Jim, The new fog lights are separate from all other lighting in the vehicle. The are fed via the battery through a relay that is controlled by the switch via ignition power. All other lights remain as they were."

I will also look in my owners manual to see if I am right.

On my 2010, the fog lights go under the turn signals/hazard flashers. Those only signal turns and hazards.

I guess am losing it -but I could swear that the turn signal lights/hazard lights also came on when I switched on lights to the first position on the stalk. The 2010 manual refers to "parking lights" - so unless my local Toyota dealer says differently, I was under a misconception for 11 years!

Top pic is a shot of the lights I THOUGHT turned on in the first position of the light switch - I took a picture with the hazards on.
Second pic shows new fog lights on and the "candles" lit - again - lights on the first position.
Third pic is what the installer added to the stock switches in the dash.
Fourth pic is just the "candles" (how these lights were referred to by the dealer when they needed to be replaced) on - fog lamp switch is off.
Hard to believe this is what Toyota designed - every other car on the road for the longest time had yellow lights on under the headlights when low beams were on.

Yep, your parking/marker lights are those 'candles', and the amber side-facing ones in the fenders.

The ones below the headlights and above the foglights are the turn/hazard lights.
