My 2021 prime XLE came with a gouge in the door trim leather by the lock buttons I didn't notice before buying it

Literally 12 hours after owning my car I called Toyota and the dealership called me

Was told I'd be contacted by the dealership management from the dealership yesterday

The only reason I didn't notice this was due to it raining really really hard.

I looked the car over but due to the weather unfortunately I didn't notice this

I have Literally been the only person in this vehicle and know I didn't cause this.

For the deal I got on this XLE if I have to live with this I will...

This is my first new car lol I just wanted it perfect...for at least the first few hours lol

What should I do in this situation?

Also dealership is 2 hours from my house so there is that too

Back in the day some people would intentionally nick/scratch their new car in an unexposed spot to get the first ding out of the way in a controlled manner. Rather than living in fear until it inevitably happened. If it’s a minor ding and not going to rust or corrode you decide.
My dad had a car that came with a gouged leather dash. He had the dealer fix it which entailed removing and replacing the dash. The gouge was gone but there were wrinkles that weren’t there before. He lamented he should have left well enough alone.

It's just it's in the leather where I cam see it on the door interior panel

    Very solid advice though

Some photos would be helpful to determine how extensive the damage is. There is no leather in your car, so it must be Softex material.

In any case, if I was you, I would complain to the dealer and Toyota customer rep. It is a brand new car, it should not have any damage inside or out. But if you are happy with the rest of the car and want to keep the car, I would ask them to fix the damage or at the least compensate you for the cost of damage.

    Here are some photos

Like I said I was the only person in this car since buying

And it was quite dark and raining really hard when I bought it

I broke a cardinal rule of mine which is don't buy a car in the rain

    Assumed it would be perfect

    Was definitely wrong

I see two areas with scratches, but neither seems to be major. Yeah, it looks like a sore thumb now, but they may be blended into many similar scratches by the time for the first oil change. Since they don't look torn, it may look less obvious if you just detail the surface with a good vinyl protector. I think there are various vinyl repair kits as well, but I don't know how it looks after application. You can try complaining about it to the dealer you purchased the car from. They may have a detailing specialist who can fix or at least make it less prominent. If not, they may offer you some way to compensate for the defect. Good luck, and let us know how the case develops.

Looks to me like two small nicks in the top circle in @Salamander_King's picture. Plus the bottom nick.

I don't think I'd go berserk over it, but it's worth seeing if they will fix it for you. If not, maybe a detailer. Or what I'd probably do is say, "Well ... now that that's out of the way, I can just enjoy my astonishingly efficient and comfortable new car and be glad the first ouchie wasn't worse." ;)

those nicks on that plastic trim can't really be detailed out. The only way to fix it is to replace the trim. Perhaps the dealer is nice enough to do that? If not, you can put some 303 aerospace protectant on it and will be less noticeable

I'm sort of interested in the fact that the damage appears to have been created by a large circular object. See faint yellow line tracing the radius through the two damage points.

    So update here

I have been dealing with this dealership since the 1st

Have called toyota customer service 5 times before they actually contacted me

The CS manager had informed me the deer ships manager had contacted me on the 4th...which is a lie

I have talked to her 3 or 4 times now

    Talked to the sales manager

Who said he'd call me back by end of day yesterday, never did

Called today again, never got a call back

And have taken this to a los dealership, who saw the damage

I am at this point extremely annoyed and am pretty much done with this

They also need to look into the charging issue it has taking almost 7 hrs to charge on 120V

I am about to call their general manager and toyota to give them a Karen on a level never seen before.

This is the absolute opposite of professionalism and would never expect it from toyota or a dealership in general

    Issue resolved

Daecars traded the vehicle in for basically what I paid

Got me into a different trim (what I wanted)

And made it so I owed 1200 less

Did you get a new LE trim? It is very rare that a dealer would take back a car that has been sold, but it can work for both parties sometimes. Congrats.

I believe it is a new one

The color I wanted was not at this location but I will confirm this before signing anything

They also basically gave me 1000 less than what I paid originally
