DIY CV Axle Replacement

    New-to-me 2016 Four with 87k miles and a driver side CV with the dreaded clicking noise. Has anyone done this swap themselves? Any other resources besides the TIS repair manual (which I'll be purchasing access to)?

    Looking to get first hand experience with this or if it's even doable by a weekend DIYer. I've maintained all my own vehicles to this point so feel comfortable with mechanical work, but I do know there are certain repairs, on certain cars, that push outside of being reasonable for a DIYer. Previous two, self-maintained cars were a 2002 v6 Ranger with 250k at retirement and a 2002 Camry v6 with 270k (still own this tank).

    It's a used 2016, I'm not the original owner and I'm past the 60k/60month factory unless I'm mistaken?

    Just for giggles ask the dealership, maybe more than one. Sometimes there’s under the table extensions, or goodwill can knock some of the price off. These guys are approachable; doesn’t hurt to ask. At least get a quote, so you know what your options are.

    I’m not aware of anything, other than my brief notes on the parts, materials, and special service tools identified in the Repair Manual (more info) and Electronic Parts Catalog. Keep in mind that the original bulletin (T-SB-0157-18) has been withdrawn, and there were reports in that thread that the noise returned after the repair.

    A video posted on YouTube suggests replacing the grease in the outboard joint instead; I haven’t tried this.

    I've seen your posts in several threads, always so thorough and helpful, thanks a ton!

    I'll have to give the grease a consider. I think I'd prefer to hang on to the OEM parts if at all possible so trying a regrease first makes sense.
