i have used it, but it is kind of pointless, since it's soft rubber and can't damage the paint.

As of last night following charging, my cover no longer adheres firmly into the charge port (not the holding port thing). In fact, it doesn't hold in there at all; the outside metal door, when closed, is the only thing that holds the cover on the port. Not very well designed.

Sigh, you're gonna pick apart my sentence word-by-word. You know what I mean - look at the attached photo of the manual on the first page. The cover for the L1 cable charging head has a u-shaped cavity that allows it to be attached to the cord (there, I didn't use the word, hook).

I don't see an attachment. This was the hook I thought you were talking about (mine didn't come with one).

    upload_2017-9-28_19-53-40.png

You appear to actually be talking about this:

That little thing has two problems. First, it requires you to over stretch the lanyard. Second, it doesn't hold worth beans.

Yeah it's the second photo I am speaking.

Ahh so it doesn't hold too well? That's too bad.

Okay, so you got me thinking about this.

This is how Toyota claims this is supposed to work:

The problem is, it doesn't work like that. If you attach just one side, it looks like this:

    IMG_6872.JPG

Kind of looks like the picture, but it doesn't hold well.

If you attach both sides, like the picture, it stretches the heck out of the lanyard:

So I'm going to try this instead:

Thanks for checking it out for us.

That is weird that it would either not hold well or stretch the lanyard. Either way, I like your solution!

The original PIP(2012-2015) charge port/door works just fine. All the added instructions, locking mechanism and parts/ports just complicate the simple charging effort. KISS. I understand the locking feature, but it's not necessary.

So, after some weeks of doing the above, it turns out that it works really well, even in strong wind.

I have not had issue with the cap popping out of it's "charging position".

I purposely leave the cap that's attached to the car dangling when parked in a shared charging area to make it more visible.

My employer supplies 2 charging cables at two adjacent buildings (4 total) for about 10-12 cars. So we gotta share.

If your not a prius owner, it's hard to notice the cap at all (if the cap is "parked"), I I found a leaf owner trying to force the charging door shut with the cap in the parked position. (I didn't make it out to unplug my car quick enough, for the next guy). He didn't see the cap. No damage to the prius, because I was there just in time.

With the cap dangling, everybody sees it and figures out how to put it back.

Smart move - I think I’ll start doing that. Same thing happened to me (coworker with a Leaf who was trying to do a nice thing when moving the cable from my car to his). Unlike you, though, I didn’t get there in time. Got back to my car to find the door stuck in semi-closed position. I forced it open and was lucky nothing got bent/damaged.

Does this dust cover/lanyard have any purpose if you use the supplied charger mounted in the garage. I can see the use of it when it is stored in the trunk to keep the dust out. My lanyard is already broken in half and using hot glue did not work.

You can order a replacement cap. Our caps in the US go in very tight and there is no way they would pop out.

I am not sure if this one is the correct one for your model.

I wrap the cord cap half a turn counterclockwise over the cord plug and it stays there. The socket cap is pushed into the dummy socket on the right.
