Block heater failed

    Too, in a pinch you could modify the plug, cut off the existing and revise to compatible plug.

    Yeah my purchase was part no ...00905, was $90 CDN through dealership. It’d be nice if US dealerships could procure; there’s some pretty severe winters in north/central and north/eastern States.

    also, Prius shop purchases can be an “adventure”.

    Looks like there's an even newer version that is only 202 watts. And this may be a quiet way Toyota is dealing with the not-a-recall fire thing.

    Having replaced the block heater, do you think it would be notably easier to do it at the same time as egr cooler?

    This is true! I can plug in my block heater since I have a plug on the side of the building at my carport. I am technically not allowed to do any work on my car on condo property. I break the rules, but its stressful - Have to be very clean with my work area to make it look like i'm doing something minor by not leaving all my tools out next to my car.

    Often I have to slam the hood and pretend like I am just checking the oil or doing something minor when I hear footsteps or a car approaching. Adds an extra element of difficulty to DIY'ing your car. I also usually work at night with a headlamp on instead of during the day when people would see what I am doing. Cant rig up any powerful lamps like most mechanics use as that would draw too much attention. It makes me feel as though owning your own property or garage is an extreme luxury reserved for the rich, which it is where I live but not so much in other places with cheaper property.

    used to do that myself, worked on my vehicle’s maintenance and signed apartment leases to not work on vehicles. The evenings or nights, I was the ninja car mechanic. One time a feller here on PC had a failing 12v, members urged him to buy a 12v charger. Well he did buy one and had no outlet to hook it up because he parked in a underground apartment parking spaces. Poor lad.

    When I was in college, I helped a friend swap rear axles on his Camaro in our apartment parking lot. We worked on a Sunday afternoon when staff weren't there. We didn't finish so we shoved the new axle under the car and just sat the rear wheels in the wheel wells. We stashed the old axle behind some bushes. The next day we both had classes and came back to find the axle in the bushes was gone. Thank God the new axle was under the car and still there. We finished the job after midnight and turned off our flashlights any time we heard a car approaching.

    Those were the days!
