Impressive range given that it has 20" wheels and their LR battery is slightly smaller than the North American version.

Why oh why. This inexorable escalation of wheel diameters is costing, in mpg, expense, environmental impact.

In the video, they do mention that the 20's are an option. You can also get 19s. (eyes roll)

From that, breaking distance can given as a reason for the larger wheels on BEVs with their increased weight. It's really about designers using the larger sizes for looks though. Sometimes to the point that smaller plus zero wheels look wrong on the car.

I think Europe requires separate fuel economy testing for the different factory wheels of a car.

It's hard to discern from the photos, but this car isn't a small car. It looks like the size of a Civic Hatchback but it's actually the size of a Prius Prime with a wheelbase longer than the fullsize SUV Hyundai Palisade (at 118" or 3 millimetres shy of 3 metres). The Prime has a wheelbase of 106.3" or 2.7m

We don't know the US prices, but the conversion from Korean is starting at $40k and (IIRC) $44k for the long-range version.

It's basically a Model Y competitor except vastly superior by spec, built by a decent company, and still eligible for the tax credits. A model Y configured how I'd want it is $52k. So, this could be $44k - $11,500 in tax credits so that makes it $52k vs $33.5k - $18,500 cheaper, plus lower taxes and likely way cheaper maintenance, all for a vastly superior car.

Possibly end of the year for the US. (Deliveries in the UK start in Sept or Oct). Depending on demand, we may get pushed back to early 2022. To be clear, Hyundai USA has not mentioned anything about delivery dates or pricing (or even availability) in the US.

Does that include the 10% sales tax? If not, we can lop off another 10% for the direct conversion.

I'm estimating US$40k for the RWD LR version. (Basically same as ID.4). We'll see if Hyundai offers the smaller SR version. They might if VW offers the smaller battery version of the ID.4.

In Canada, that means $44,999 for the RWD LR. Also, that means the Kona EV is either dead when the Ioniq 5 arrives or somehow gets a significant price cut.

Sorry, stumped: what does “LR” stand for?

    Ah, maybe Long Range?
