New prius owner. Package two. Hopefully in the fall you can get a gathering. I would really like to talk to other prius owners. Lots of questions

Awesome! Welcome! Many of your questions can be answered here on Priuschat by searching using key words, and I'll also do my best to help answer any. I'll try and get some kind of gathering together for the fall. I went to one a few months ago in Jersey and it was fun. We had a "greenprix"! LOL!

    Hi Dave,
I will have to make a journey up there when you have a meetup. Let me know when you pick a date!

Will do. Have you seen the trouble I've stirred up in the Prius Waiting List Support Group thread? It's probably not as big as I think it may be, but somehow...I feel like a jerk.

Anyway, now I'm trying to figure out how much it would cost to upgrade a standard to a touring! It's a bit of a challenge...

For the meetup, I'd like to arrange something like Randreed did, and have a Greenprix. It would be a bit harder to plan a route around here, but I'll figure it out...

You did create such a stir on there. lol. See I was lucky because I wanted the Gray pkg 2 and thats what I got.
I haven't done much research on the touring but I just think it has a tighter suspension and a different tail. and rims but thats besides the fact.. Let me know what you find out.

I just bought a 2010 Prius IV from Toyota North, Mt Kisco in August and I plan to use their service department, however, I can't offer an opinion on their service yet. A girlfriend of mine has purchased 2 cars from them and does use their service (not often). She feels they do an ok proper job.

My brother (owns a Solara) and co-worker (Prius Gen 1) both use a dealership in Mamaroneck and seem happy with them.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen one Toyota Service Dept in Westchester that gets a great service rating. I'm open to better suggestions, too.

I have been to Rockland Toyota, DCH Toyota (in mam), and to Westchester Toyota.

I'd rank them in that order but Rockland is way better then the other two by far.

Avoid Westchester Toyota. I had an appointment for a 10:30 service on a sat morning. I ended up waiting until 11:15 to see a tech to get my service started. Then I had to fight the guy afterward to give me a car wash (which I've gotten free of charge at every other dealership I've ever been too without even asking).

They also tried to upsell me on 400$ worth of services like that I didn't need. They took until 3 PM to finish servicing my car.

As for there employees they don't give a shit about your car. The guy that was my tech tossed my keys across the room to the service guy who then dropped them. The service guy then got in my car got his muddy feet all over my carpet and then gunned the accelerator to go 100 feet and then slammed on the brakes at the last second to go into the service garage.

I will never go back there I was astounded how bad it was.

This is also a dealership that will charge you extra because its a Prius (I know b/c the tech told me). Luckily I had a coupon and avoided the surcharge.

Go to Rockland. Its clean the techs are professional and quick. They take care of your car and have a free shuttle to the Palisades Mall while you wait.

As for DCH. I have no complaints really, but it felt cramped and small.

I've also contacted the service department in Greenwich but never went. They seemed very nice on the phone every time I've called.

I think I'll try them next.

    Hello All:

First time poster. Quick background - apprenticed on Formula Ford race cars learning at the knee of a bona-fide genius. We own a '67 Volvo 122 wagon (daily driver for ten+ years) and a '69 Honda Trail 90 motorcycle and I do all of the sub-machine-shop-level work myself. I have above-average tools, average skills and patience. We bought a used 2008 Prius about six years ago and LOVE it. I live in Hastings-on-Hudson in Westchester. The Prius technology is above my pay-grade so I always had it serviced by Billy Nibur at C&B Automotive in Yonkers. Billy is a genius, different from the genius who taught me race cars. He retired last year and sold his shop and the guy who took it over is not at his level.

Question to Westchester folks - do you take your Prius to private mechanics or only to Toyota? Billy was magic with Priuses and I wonder if anyone has found anyone else equally capable. I am happy to drive up to an hour (prefer closer of course) if there is someone worth giving the business. My brake, ABS and VTS system lights turned on for the first time and unless you all recommend a path of diagnostics for someone with my tools and skills (checked brake fluid reservoir, no problem there), I need a pro.

    THANKS.

    Cheers,

    Pooch
