..."Catalytic converter theft is one of the most heartless types of robbery."

    Worse than assault and mugging.
    Worse than armed robbery.
MUCH worse than a home invasion.

More SMH ridiculous writing by Nielsen... This time he dedicates and entire article to how Cat Theft is crippling more than Prius owners and then fails to mention even once who those non-Prius owners are and how they're being crippled. He also fails to mention less expensive replacement options for non-California states. This writer... So much SMH every time I see one of his rants that never gets looked at by an editor before he hits publish.

If that’s “heartless”, I wonder what the ones you listed above are.

    ....justification for a CCP?
....something that generally happens in less developed parts of the world?
    ...a reason NOT to move?

The only time I ever had to frequent some fairly bad neighborhoods was when I was a squid, and probably the one I actually LIVED the closest to was "The Triangle" in Charleston....now 'gentrified.' to the point where it doesn't even merit a wiki entry.

You may rest VERY WELL ASSURED that there are probably more heartless crimes out there than people yanking cats out of Priuses..... ;)

Pretty sure that many Prius owners consider that their cars are high tech compared to regular ICE powered vehicles and go to the dealer for most any repair. One of your threads, Camper, reflected how an owner went to a dealer, due to the shortage of OE replacements, was charged two grand for a cobbled together aftermarket cat replacement.

There is a minority of individuals who know about the $150 and below Canadian cats on eBay and Amazon. In the listing on some Canadian cats on eBay, I've seen large quantity purchases most likely by muffler shops.

Plenty of people in the US ASLO believe in things like wrestling being real, the Moon landing being fake, and 'ufos' that seem to appear only in restricted military operating ranges.

That doesn't mean these things are true.

It's 2021....and most Priuses ARE ICE powered, including nearly ALL of them that are being targeted by cat thieves.
In wireless Priuses, the traction battery is merely a spit cup to deposit waste energy that was originally generated by..........the ICE.

    It WAS good tech.....
    In some ways....even transformational.....

    .....back in 2000!
    Seven years before the iPhone....
When those people who ordered stuff on Amazon either did it at work or with dial-up....
Before a little known dot.com dude created PayPal....or bought out Tesla....
    Before SpaceX....

Prius owners always like to consider themselves to be a little smarter than the average bear, and many of them ARE.

I'm going to give most of them credit for being able to figure out the $200 cat thing.... ;)

Apparently the term for more than one Prius is Prii

    Oh?
So what's the collective noun for Prius?
    A Smug of Pirii?

How about a Congress of Priuses?
These days...this seems more appropriate. ;)

I remember listening live on NPR in those dark, pre-podcast days back in the early 2000's when the brothers Magliozzi riffed of this topic. Other than the infamous episode where they proved it is possible for two people to know less about a subject than one person. this is one of their more lasting contributions to modern automotive culture.

I also remember severely straining my eye-roll muscles in February 2011 when Toyota asked the US public to decide on what "the most proper plural form of Prius should be," with choices including Prien, Prii, Prium, Prius, or Priuses.
Since I adhere to the Palin theory when it comes to polls (they're for strippers and cross country skiers) I'll keep being me.

According to the Wikis, and perhaps because GOD has a sense of humor about these things, speakers of the Latin opined that the most grammatically correct choice was "none of the above" with Priora being thought to be the MOST appropriate, according to "experts" of a language currently spoken by fewer people than Navajo....and probably validating Car Talk's OTHER automotive cultural contribution.

The wikis also acknowledge that "Despite the "official" plural form used by Toyota USA, "Priuses" is widely used in English" a slightly altered version of which is my native language.

    So....

    Me?
I've never owned a PRIUS, but I've driven nearly 200,000 miles over the last 10 years in two PRIUSES.

    TIFWIW

there’s no way a bunch of Prius can be in the same category/group as of corrupted politicians.

When I lived in southwest Detroit, a back-door window of my Mazda got heartlessly smashed while on-street parked outside my apartment. Adding insult, nothing was even taken, just heartlessly shoved onto the floor off my back seat. Found it that way on the coldest morning of the danged year and had to drive it to work that way.

Stopped at my usual breakfast joint and griped about it to the server, who had had the same thing happen to her, only in her case there had also been a pillow heartlessly left behind on the seat.

Lots of people don't know the words where the singular and plural are the same.

We used to have really mean English teachers that forced us to learn this stuff... But these days, most English teachers in public schools have lost their minds amid so many changes to the language and they have to pick their battles. Such as encouraging kids to write in complete sentences and not abbreviate words is a more important fight than getting the formal version of singular instead of plural right.

There’s a “political correctness” factor too. I recall listening to a women’s rights advocate on CBC radio. English was not her native language. She steadily/consistently referred to plural of woman as “womans”.

The interviewer just rolled with it, which I can see. But it struck me: this was her vocation, she’s making a fundamental grammar error, many times, day after day, and everyone just keeps schtum.

Like fish and fishes, huh? One fish or more than one of the same kind of fish or even a school a school of fish. Fishes, however, mean different species of fish.
