Do you remember what you had to do to get the backup camera to come on when you put the car in reverse?

I just put in my pioneer and used a harness for the backup camera. I can see the camera feed in the settings of the pioneer but it doesn’t automatically come on when I’m in reverse.

    Thanks!

    Mark,

If you bought all that I did, it was just connecting the jumper harness, soldering all the wires to the proper existing (from pigtails - BTW, I believe all the colors matched up)...then make sure you plug in that right angle connector to back of unit.

Ok thanks, I’ll double check my wiring!

I didn’t plug in the right angle connector from the maestro RR to the head unit yet (I need An adapter for it to work) but I think I remember seeing that it was for audio. Which would make sense because my factory mic isn’t working

Negative, I found the wire from the radio harness and the idatalink harness used for reverse signal, it has a good connection but head unit still isn’t switching automatically. I’m going to call Crutchfield soon and see what they say.

Also the maestro RR unit or whatever it’s called isn’t switching the head unit to front camera/ rear camera (have it programmed to a long hold of track up/ track down). I suspect it’s because the head unit is so new, probably get fixed soon with a firmware update

Spoke to Crutchfield and the tech had me test the purple/ white wire for 12v while in reverse and I wasn’t getting voltage so the receiver didn’t know to turn on the reverse cam. He thinks it’s software on the Maestro RR and wants to send me a new one. Unfortunately our call got disconnected and I wasn’t able to get ahold of him again, I’ll call back tomorrow.

Also when Siri responds, like after I ask her to make a call, her voice sounds odd like electronic almost. During navigation her voice is normal, it’s only when I use hey Siri and she responds to my request. Weird

    Sorry to hijack your thread!

Started with a 6.8” Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX screen and it was nice but I wanted more. IMG_9085.jpg

In goes the 9” DMH-WT7600NEX. Love the big screen, 720p vs 480p resolution on the smaller one. I have to adjust it a bit, I’d like it to sit a little lower but that’s a weekend project. Crutchfield customer support has been top notch, they are sending a new Maestro RR that will hopefully fix the backup camera not activating.

Seems to me if you want something that big sticking out, why not just mount an iPad?

because it would last about 5.6 nano-seconds on typical sunny summer day? Or less in some neighborhoods? Or it doesn't have any speaker or line out output? Or you'd pay a heck of a lot more or....

    Was this a serious question?

They do have a line out, cover, easy to remove and take with you.

iPad would be much more work and likely fry in the SoCal heat. I love the 9” pioneer so far!

That thing doesn't have a lithium battery. Bad thing about an iPad is the battery would be in the sun that battery will be toast, most likely overheat and slow down. That head unit is designed to be installed into the dash of a car. Even stock prius headunit has an active fan. An iPad not so much

I work in the IT field and leave iPads and iPhones in vehicles in direct sunlight on a regular basis parked next the police department. When the iPad battery overheats, it warns you about temp too high then shuts down. The only way for an iPad to slow down is when you have too much apps open simultaneously or haven’t reboot the iPad in a while.

I don't recall a fan on my stock radio. I've done a lot of radios, and have not heard of a fan
on any of the units. I imagine maybe one might have one.
I'm happy with my stock non jbl radio that I hook my iPhone into that I use a cd holder for.
It's been in the sun almost every day for the last 7-8 years and is still working...

But it's your car and you can use whatever you like. Doesn't matter what anyone else likes.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but were you ever able to figure out how to get the reverse camera to kick in? I can view mine when I select it manually on the HU but it doesn't trigger when I put it in reverse.

"it doesn't trigger when I put it in reverse."

You might (probably do) need one of THESE. I got one (from Crutchfield) when I replaced my JBL/Nav with a Pioneer unit. Got some other adapters as well; to retain steering wheel controls, etc.

Replying to myself here in case anyone else runs across this in the future. Apparently the Prius doesn't pass gear information to the Maestro RR. After speaking with someone at iDataLink, they suggested I tap into Pin 2 of the 28-pin factory harness (it was Pink on mine). I connected that to the Purple/White cable on the Maestro harness and everything works as expected now.

I saw some other threads where people mentioned tapping into a point at the drivers kick panel, but this seemed simpler since the connection was easier to get to on the factory radio harness.
