Meh, had a very strong thunderstorm cell the other day blast a tree branch through the windshield of our 2004 Prius and stabbed the dashboard.

I'll add pics later.. but it's essentially a hole right in front of the speedometer is located.
The plastic bits exploded pretty amazingly.. discovered a completely unattached speaker in the front..or the tree branch with it's nimble hands released it from it's clip effortlessly undamaged...lol.

I been following a YouTuber on how to remove the cover.
    Extremely helpful:

I keep finding chunks and pieces of mirror where the hole is?

Is the info reflected back from the computer to the display the driver sees? this car never had one of those fancy fighter pilot displays that's for sure. Rear view mirror is fine.

The good news: car starts right up, I get some minor info from the cluster...

But no speedometer, no fuel guage, no turn signal indicator.

Let's say this tree branch sliced the wires to the display.... What can I do? I won't know the extent of damage till I get it removed.

Windshield - doubt my liability insurance will cover it, how much am I looking at for replacement? I don't care about the radio or anything else possibly imbedded in the original glass.

I need the instrument cluster up and running, any help with dashboard removal, instrument cluster suggestions, etc.

    Much appreciated! Thanks in advance!
    Thanks for reading.

    TL;DR:
    Windshield replacement costs?
Instrument cluster - no display, but car starts.

Yup. The combination of moving the meter to the middle of the dash and stretching out the light path with mirrors gets it far enough from your eyes that you're really not refocusing from distance to near every time you look at it.

Do you have 'comprehensive' on your policy? That's exactly the sort of thing it should cover.

That image is from the New Car Features manual (all of the service manuals and how you can find them are described here).

But for finding parts and part numbers and such, what you want is the online catalog here.

Result pages will show you suggested list pricing, but will also have links to a few dealers where you can view their discounted pricing.

Naa, I I just have liability insurance, since the car is so old and high mileage. I do have AAA, if that matters.

Although late for telling you this, for others following along at home, 'comp' usually doesn't add a whole lot to the cost of a policy—usually a lot less than collision coverage, just because collisions are much more often the reason for cars to get damaged than 'comp' claims.

At the same time, you have at least a certain amount of control over your collision risk through the way you drive, but sometimes those 'comp' risks like wayward trees are more like wildcards, and they're still a drag if they take your ride out of commision and it's in otherwise decent shape.
