I have decided to sell the Prius because I can't park it without worrying about the cat converter getting stolen.

    2005 Gen 2
    Color: Blue
    134000 miles.
Option 6 Package - JBL sound, navigation, etc.
HV battery replaced June 2020 with new, OEM Toyota/Panasonic battery pack purchased from dealer
12 volt battery replaced in Jan 2021 due to age

I have every service record for this vehicle since it was purchased.

It use maybe 1/2 quart oil per 5000 miles. It has the paint chipping issue on the hood but only small dings and scratched otherwise. All original glass - never wrecked.

So what is such a beastie worth these days? The KKB value reported is about what I could sell the cat and battery pack for! I'm interested in any offers or opinions. I'm located just west of Atlanta, Ga.

Thanks in advance! Thanks also to the Priuschat folks - I have recently retired and spend many happy hours lurking on the list!!

    Tom

Such a great car to give up on due to thieves. Please consider putting on a $100 cat shield and $50 dollar motion sensing alarm... And realize there's so many Prius on the road these days that the high theft numbers are not that high and you still have relatively low odds of being a theft victim.

I think you could get high retail selling it private party. At least $5500 with a starting price around $5995. Highlight the new battery and its cost.

If you get several hot calls the first day from facebook marketplace, pull it, wait a couple of days and increase another $500. Cars are high now because of low new supply which are getting msrp. Be sure you know what you are going to and its availability.

Thanks for the reply, PriusCamper! I always find your contributions here on the list useful when it comes to all things Prius.

It's not just the cat theft issue. (although I'm not interested in owning an automobile I have to fight people over!) I retired last fall and no longer need a car for commuting to town every day. My daily drive now is 6 miles total most days versus 78-120 miles before. I never get in "the zone" when it comes to economy. (Funny...I drive it enough to get 50 MPG in summer...42-45 MPG winter.)

One of my kids dumped a Hyundai Accent in my lap. It still runs and drives great but would bring maybe $1500? It's good enough for me and cost me next to nothing to keep. Carmax will give me $3200 for the Prius so it must be worth much more retail.

When I first got this machine I spent many hours watching Weber University produced videos and lurking on Priuschat learning about it. The more I learned, the more I was impressed.

I also realized what I want is a real electric car with simple gear reduction between the motor output and the wheels.

In Georgia (Gawja for the unwashed) they will steal cat converters no matter if you have the valuable, original OEM, or the $100 Amazon model. I'm told some guys will tear your car up for making their job difficult.
    Life is too short...

    Thanks!
The Edmunds calculator shows a bit below that but Carmax offered $3200 (not sure if that's a real number or just bait) so the retail must be around $5-6K.
The battery was $2200 after tax but people spend that much all the time on regular ICE autos. I'm not really sure why there is this pervasive "battery failure fear."

I just middleman a deal for a friend. We got a 2004 with similar miles and had the batteries replaced earlier this year, all for $3600. It has some dings as well.

In my area, the car is a deal, but not a steal. They usually go for 4000 or so.

No sure of the market on gen 2's in other states, I'm personally after a Prius V, but will settle for a gen 2 until I find "the one". Best of luck on your sale.

If you were closer, I'd fly out, but Georgia is quite a drive to save a few hundred on a car

I'm inclined to wait a little while to see how the chip shortages and gas prices will progress.
We're paying almost $4/gal in Atlanta area. Cheapest in suburbs...$2.90.
I may just sell the cat and replace with amazon crap. All we need to do in Georgia is keep CEL off.
Read somewhere that Gen 2s are going for $10k in California!!?? I would take that in a heartbeat....
