    thanks for future comments.

    I have a 2015 prius C, i live in Nicaragua, Central America.

Two days ago, check engine light showed. Today i went to my local dealer, to get the car scan. Result is a P0A80 alert. My car is under the 100k miles. My question is:

Does Toyota have a warranty worldwide? Does it apply for every country in the world? Because here, my dealer told me that warranty its only for 62k miles or 3 years, whatever comes first.

    Can you guys help me.

    Thank you so much.

    Welcome to PriusChat.

Toyota’s warranties are not the same in all countries. For example, as I discussed in another thread, the long warranty periods offered in the United States are required by U.S. and California laws and regulations, but in Japan, the warranties are shorter.

If your Toyota dealer says the warranty in Nicaragua is only for 100,000 km or 3 years, that’s probably true—but I couldn’t say for sure, without seeing the warranty booklet or paperwork that came with the car.

warranties are strange things, and difficult to interpret, purposefully?

I don't have Nicaragua-specific advice, but generally speaking your warranty is provided and fulfilled by the national distributor, which is sometimes owned by the manufacturer. If you take the car to a different country, your warranty probably can't be directly used but there is usually a procedure for indirect use.

For example, a Prius sold in the USA will have a Toyota USA warranty. If the vehicle breaks down while visiting Canada, the owner would pay a Canadian Toyota dealer for any repairs required, and then apply for reimbursement from Toyota USA after returning home. This is obviously not as convenient as having the repairing dealer directly bill the warranty underwriter, but that's how it goes.

You would have to check the specific terms of your warranty to be certain.

I’m not sure that’s a good example. I don’t know what Toyota Canada tells its dealers, but in the mainland U.S., the Toyota Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual instructs dealers to submit warranty claims for vehicles from the Hawaii and the U.S. territories, Canada, and Mexico (but not from places outside of North America) directly to Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A.; there’s no need for visiting owners to seek reimbursement later.
