2008 with 189k. The handle does not respond to touch the way the front passenger door does. Also when I lock the doors with the key fob, the locking lever inside the door does not move either way. The only thing that works on that door is pressing the black button on the outside handle will lock all the doors(except driver door)

Probably the actuator in the driver's door is worn out. That happens after a while, and the one in the driver's door usually sees more action than the others.

The actuator is a poor design. A little motor spins a worm drive that spins a disk that pulls/pushes the locking arm. Under some conditions the grease on the worm hardens and it can't spin. The same design is used on the Camry of the same vintage. I've had them fail on my 2002 Prius at about 10 years and on my wife's Camry too. The Prius was used more and (If memory is right) I replaced 3 actuators on it over the course of 17 years.

You can get cheap aftermarket replacements, but if they fail it's a lot of hassle to replace so I'd suggest getting good quality ones if you can.

BTW, removing one from a wreck at the junk yard is easy because you are not concerned about destroying the door panel. :)

Thanks! I ordered a refurbed OEM on ebay for $99, dont want to take a chance with cheap aftermarket or junkyard. My local guy will install it for $50. Now I have to hope it's actually the actuator that's the cause!
