i bought my 2008 prius from someone who claims to flip prius as a side gig. he told me that he replaced the HV battery in the prius recently with a Dorman battery and is selling it. he had a receipt to prove it. i bought the car 1.5 years ago and it ran great (until the cat got stolen, but that is another story) Then half a year ago i noticed that the battery was draining faster than normal. and 2 days ago the red triangle turned on. now the red triangle turned off but the battery stays at 2 bars. the OBDII has codes p3000, p2799, and p0A80. The battery can't be older than 2 years. what could cause the battery to fail that quickly. is Dorman that bad of a product? or is something else causing it to fail early.
as for getting a new battery, i was thinking of getting it from electronhybridsolution because a toyota mechanic i am friends with recommended them to me. are they good?

Dorman refurbished batteries are really that bad....actually most commercially refurbished batteries aren't very good. Their business model is profit over quality.

If your Toyota mechanic "friend" recommended another refurbished battery, you need better friends

Dorman and almost all battery suppliers are selling used batteries that are inspected for weak cells. The weakest are replaced with other used cells that are better. Some charge and discharge individual used cells many times in an attempt to break the laws of physics.

To be honest, "refurbished", "rejuvenated" or "rebuilt" batteries are doing good to last 1.5 years. Things have changed in the last few years. New Toyota batteries are sometimes less than $2k and at least one supplier provides diy new cell replacements. The new batteries will easily last 175k-200k miles or eight to 15 years.

Dorman usually offers a 24 month warranty. Might check with the flipper.

If you are not comfortable installing it yourself, maybe your mechanic friend will do it for you for a reasonable price.
