The letter was actually an official IRS notice, and should be kept(oops:rolleyes:). The amount it states is the amount you have received.

"After each of the three Economic Impact Payments is issued, the IRS is required to mail a notice to each recipient's last known address. The notice provides information about the amount of the payment, how it was made and how to report any payment that wasn't received. Some people may receive multiple notices about each payment. Most people will simply file the notice with their tax records and won't need to contact the IRS or take any further action."

I never received the first two checks ($1200 and $600), so it was filed on my 2020 tax return to apply for a Recovery Rebate Credit. According to a news article, anyone claiming the unreceived stimulus checks on the 2020 income tax return was automatically put in the manual review process. The IRS is so inundated with the process and it is delaying the refund process much longer than usual 21 days.

I just received a CP05 letter from IRS stating "We're holding your refund until we finish reviewing your tax return." The letter further explains that "We could take up to 60 days to complete this review. Please do not contact us prior to 60 days from the date of this notice since we won't be able to provide you any additional information." And this notice was received almost three months after my tax return was filed and accepted back in mid-Feb when IRS first started taking in the 2020 income tax return.

On the contrary, the funny thing is that I received a deposit of the third stimulus check ($1400) from the IRS very soon after it was signed into law. I have not received a letter from IRS on this payment yet, but I already spent it plus $100 of my own earned income to make it a $1500 donation to a charity.

If you got more than three stimulus checks ($1200, $600, and $1400), then you are a very lucky man! But I would not spend it in case IRS comes back to ask for the return. ;)

it may have only been 3, mrs b and i have been trying to remember without going through numerous records, because some were checks, some were cards, and some were direct deposit.

the letter also mentions how hard they are working to get us 2k a month until the economy recovers.

what i am hearing is that business is good for the most part, and emploers can't find help because everyone is home collecting extended benefits.

okay, maybe they aren't home, maybe in the carribean or somewhere...

I don't think it's the extended benefits. A couple states have cancelled those in order to drive more people to get a job, but one of them had unemployment under 4% before doing so. Seems people have reevaluated what job they want, and got a different ones. You already had to put with a lot of BS in customer service jobs like waiting tables, and it sounds like it got worse with the mask issue. So why go back to working there if you can find another job.
