It seems to be missing from the 2020 Prime Owner's Manual. Auto Power Off is mentioned only from Accessory and On (HSD not operating) modes, not from Ready (HSD operating) mode:
He expended some effort to construct a wiki page that contains many options for anyone who isn't quite sure about how to access it.
I've done some digging, and according to the 2020 owners manual (can be found online), the auto shut-off feature can be disabled if you lock the car from the inside:
That's good to know. That means you can also leave your car running as long as you lock it with the physical key (leaving the fob inside).
This discussion only applies to the 2020 model, does it not? Every Toyota produced before then does not have Auto Shutoff, so it wouldn't matter whether you left the FOB inside the car or not, it would never shut down on its own.
But have a look at POST #24 - it's about 2020, and doesn't mention leaving the FOB INSIDE. Not sure why POST #25 suggests otherwise.
Did you try locking the doors with something other than the buttons on the remote (inside lock button, to be specific), as recommended by the Owner's Manual, quoted in Post #24? Did that not disable the system shut off feature?
Our 2020 RAV4 has something like this. We found it while testing it to see if it could camp and found that if you lock the door with the key fob or the sensor thing on the exterior door handle it will auto shut off even if someone is still inside it. If you lock it from the inside it will not turn off.
Yes. Stayed in mammoth and had get out of my tent and sleep in the car because it was too smoky from the fires. I believe it shutoff after about 3 hours
Yes, after I sent the message, I saw that post that said to lock from the inside. It worked super! Thanks everyone you save the Prius camping day!
I am trying to find out if this auto shutoff override applies to the 2021 prime. One of the main reasons I have always loved my old Prius was for napping in any weather in HV mode. Now my new 2021 seems to be shutting off after about an hour or less for the past two days. I specifically nap tested it before buying and it stayed on, but might have been under 1 hour. I would be so disappointed if my new prime can’t stay on with AC or heat for naps.
I thought we established in Post #31 that if you lock the doors using the inside lock buttons the car would not automatically shut off. Did this not work in your case?
Well I was in my 2021 prime taking a nap and I specifically locked the doors from inside using the door switch. When I woke up about 1:15 later the car was off. This is the second time this has happened this week. Funny thing is, I thought it was working fine the week before. When I turned it back on, the EV battery was still at 73%. I had left it in EV mode as before. The only thing different I can think of is it was colder past few days (about 20 F). My Owners manual has the exact same paragraph quoted above regarding disabling the auto-shutoff using the door lock switch.
Tried it again yesterday and it did not shut off this time as of 1:20. Same low temps. Only difference is I left it in HV mode rather than EV, so has to listen to a lot of ICE cycling this time.
That's interesting. Maybe the software for the Prime was brought over from the other non-plug in models. At least you do have a camping mode, although I'm sure you'd prefer to let the HVAC do its thing with battery power alone.
UPDATE: I have tried "nap mode" 3 more times in my 2021 Prime Limited. Spent about two hours in the car each time operating only with EV selected and running heat. The car shut off only one time (at about 1:20). The other two times it ran in EV mode (no ICE at all) until I turned it off some time after 2 hours. I was careful to lock the doors from inside each time. Honestly, for me even one hour of run time is ok, I am just curious to understand the behavior at this point and to relay my experiences for others who may be concerned about this feature.
I believe wholeheartedly they did this to the 2021 Prius. I've been searching the threads to find out why my car shuts down every 59 minutes. The fricking sad thing is, I bought it to camp. The dealer didn't tell me about this feature and I am pretty pissed.
