Welcome Lorenzo. Sorry you're having problems, but it's not a big surprise on a 15-16 year old car. You'd get much more attention for your issue if you'd started a new thread rather than taking you question onto a thread about getting your car up to 100,000 miles.

    But anyway ...

The shop you went to does not have a scanner that can communicate with the many computers a Prius has that other cars don't have. The most simple way to get the codes is to scan them yourself with an inexpensive OBDII bluetooth scanner such as Carista or another brand along with a phone app. There are many to choose from and tons of threads here on PC.

I was referring to the duct that vents into the hybrid battery.

In 2007 my 80 year old mother informed me she wanted to buy a hybrid vehicle. I didn’t even know what that meant, but I found a Honda dealer that had a hybrid Civic which we test drove. I liked it, but she didn’t. She said she wanted to try a Prius, so we found a Toyota dealer that had a maroon one in stock. I drove it and didn’t like it, but she did and bought it. Over the next several years everyone in the family fell in love with that Prius, and I finally bought my own 2007 a couple of years ago, the gray one pictured in my profile.

My mother finally gave up driving at age 92, and about the same time the hybrid battery went out in her Prius with about 90,000 miles on it and 13 years old. She gave it to me and I put a new battery in it from the local Toyota dealer. I spent more than I probably needed to, but that’s all I have in the car and it should go for many more miles. It now has 110,000 miles on it and it’s my main driver and I don’t plan on selling it anytime soon. I sold the gray one, which by the way, had about 135,000 on the original battery and was still going strong.

I use automatic ventilation settings. is it okay that the air conditioning compressor always turns on? I live in the Czech Republic and we have winter weather here.

2008 package 3 I think. (Not sure) I have HID headlights, FOH lights and Bluetooth telephone directory. Have the Homelink rear view mirror auto dimming and SKS.
No leather or Navigation. not the Touring model either. I’m guessing level 3.
    new 12 volt battery
move replaced tires. 2 sets, both front CV axles, transmission fluid. Added vinyl seats from a donor car and added vinyl to the armrest and rear seat pillars. Added LED interior lighting and cleaned out a lot of food from my child. Cleaned the HEVAC blower motor and the hybrid battery motors really really well. Original

Yes. The air conditioner compressor should also turn on in the winter. In cold weather it dries the air, so that the windows don't fog up, the carpets and upholstery stay dry and free of mildew, interior metal parts don't rust, and electronic parts, especially the battery ECU voltage sensor connector, stay dry.

In the winter the compressor will typically cycle on and off, and run at a very low speed. So it doesn't use a significant amount of energy.

After a further 4 years and 40 000 miles I have done most of the regular servicing myself plus plugs and PCV. I had the coolants changed by a dealer, but have held off getting the coolant pumps changed. (I may do that around 150k miles). I just changed the 12V battery as it failed. I have reverted to Michelin ‘Eco’ tires which are wearing well.

Some how I missed this post, 6 mths late but what can I say ;lol:
The taxi Prius now has a bit over 733,000km on the clock and is back to being the daily driver. Besides begging for a L/H/R wheel bearing replacement (so noisy now you can't hear the tired engine screaming its t*ts off trying maintain 110km/h (70mph) it is still going strong. The usual speedo and dash going blank is still there, but it returns the next morning, so we do the speed by the phone app on the dashes days off.

My poor '06 Prius has a very fried traction battery, my fault, I decided to see what voltage the computer considered was 100% so connected the solar to charge it .... must have had a few low voltage modules resulting in the higher voltage modules actually catching fire ...... local volunteer fire fighter arrived after I'd put it out and emptied a 9kg dry powder extinguisher in there as well .... what a mess. Trying to see if insurance will cover it because it did catch on fire, but that is taking a lot longer than expected ..... more details about the on the Rainbow Prius Hybrid Powered by Lithium! | Page 23 | PriusChat thread.

Oh man what a drag. I know youre using a special battery.. Oh man. Sorry for the late reply and I hope you got the car up again. I have to go back here again to follow-up on 2 things.
    1. I have 32,000 miles from a transmission oil service. is it time?
    2. Time to resurrect the catalytic protection threading. The tweakers are out there and hitting all over US. Any updates on reliable catalytic guard. Or is it still the same Double 00 Remington.?

Seems you can steal your own cat now, sell it for the rare elements and replace it with an aftermarket cat that isn't worth stealing and still have $$ left over

We have just come out of a lock down here, so I'll have to wait till the local Toyota dealer catches up with their back log of work and get it tilt tray delivered to the workshop so they can finally do a report for the insurance people.
The pain in the butt is removing all the upgrade stuff before it goes, just in case we don't get it back if they write it off as an economic loss (repair value exceeds insured value)

Me, being a lazy pr*ck, might never get it all back on if we do get it back ..... I could always fit the chassis brace, the strut tower brace, the thingy that allows the stereo to play from a data stick (thumb drive ... what ever they call them over there) to the taxi Prius
I wouldn't bother with the auto wipers upgrade (has a disable over ride fitted so the wipers don't start up every time the car is turned on) and the auto reverse camera when changing lanes, a right pain in the butt really, along with the front parking sensors, goes off for no real reason so it has a cut out switch to disable it now as well. The heated leather seats would be nice, but I doubt I'd get away with swapping out the tired old ex taxi '08 seats

... my experience, the limit of a Generation II Prius, driven like a Corvette, you can count on a solid 184 thousand mile engine life. Thereabout. Weak link in the Prius ICE: bottom end.

When it finally goes, it's going to be a rod or a main bearing. Hybrid assist, that surprisd me.

Little bit of a rod knock, about the 155k mark, Toyota's ICE (e.g., internal combustion engine) gives you ample warning. No way to run-in and snap-shut an engine break-in with a CVT, about a quart every three tanks, my Prius was an oil burner. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Main bearing went, pulling a grade mid-day. I was able to nurse it to a very competent independent mechanic.

Engine rebuild, about US$8k, my daily driver Prius is back on the road, somewhat better gas mileage than before, consistent 37 MPG, driven like a Corvette. Asking the engine builder for clarification on engine break-in, "... NO! DON"T! DON'T TRY TO DO A BREAK-IN. DON'T OVERTHINK IT. JUST DRIVE THE THING. GET IT BACK TO ME AFTER 3K MILES. WE'VE GOT TO FLUSH THOSE INITIAL FRICTIONAL LOSSES."

Real work of art, I was always interested how Subaru manages to correlate the calculus of asymmetric con-rods to a workable break-in methodology to consistently seat rings, on their FB engines (e.g., it was Toyota's engineers who did the calculus on Subaru's FB ICE). I suspect variability in Impreza engine life is going to be all over the carts, depending how that engine was broken in. Far more consistent engine life with the Prius (basic; symmetric con rods), yet no break-in necessary?

    Go figure.

My other vehicle, a vintage MR2 Supercharged, that they're deathly afraid to service it, I've recently lost faith in Toyota Dealer service. I can't trust my local dealer for an oil change.

Caveat Emptor: simple, straightforward procedure, replacing a cruise control module on a 1988 MR2, Toyota's line mechanic got himself lost, mid-procedure. They returned the vehicle back to me, unassembled. The technician couldn't figure out how to put it back together.

My independent service station had the engine out, sent to an engine shop, rebuilt, and reinstalled on my Gen II Prius -- done inside three weeks; done right, the first time, no less.

The oil change period, good oil and keeping the rings free to move in the pistons is the key. My '08 is still on its original engine, over 730,000km on the clock now, it was a taxi in a major Australian city for the first 700,000 of those kms. It uses maybe 1 ltr every 5 tanks of fuel, it still goes strong and my wife does not drive it like a "little old lady" much to the dismay of those she passes on the trips to the big smoke.
Maybe doesn't get pushed as hard as the "driven like a Corvette" example. The fact that exceeding 110km/h (about 70mph) on the freeway is an extremely expensive experience over here and caught 3 times has your licence to drive cancelled ... 3 mths the first time, 6 mths the second, 12 mths the third and all the vehicle registered in your name have their registration cancelled with no refund for the lost $$ .... and you have to pay up front to hand in your licence, or 5 times that amount if they have to come and collect it ....
Chances of getting caught ......they have mobile speed cameras as well as fixed speed cameras and point to point cameras that take a photo as you pass through and the next camera takes a photo and so on ... if you reached the next camera too soon, you get a speeding fine and that can compound all the way down the freeway ....so the chances of being caught speeding and losing a lot of $$ and your licence are real high over here .... speeding isn't really an option in the long term ....... you can't outrun the camera and WiFi link back to the revenue generators, the actual Police cars are really only there to be seen and determine the next good revenue generating spot to mount a camera ... other that, they control traffic around a crash scene or breakdown .....

Excellent stamina! I wonder if the speed limit cap helped your prius to survive so long? Socialistas seem to really enjoy their camera toys! Been to France, Mexico, Canada, Dominican Republic, India, Sri Lanka, UAE, Thailand and I can say that the information I got in France (apart from the others) was enough to see the true value in speeding in that country! (very expensive).

Probably did you a service! Rather than just botch it altogether. Time ticks on, people change fields, but the ability to focus seems to fizzle out lately...

I thought the Gen 2 had the best chance to go 600 thou All of my Corollas have gone 3 to 500 I expect this ugly Gen 2 with the ugly tan cloth interior that I have to go 500 it's got three on it now and I'm just dumping the original high voltage battery One NZ bottom ends fall apart really okay tell that to all the Yaris people I guess anyway we'll see I will be driving the Prius until the seats are chewed out of it I don't have any oil problems or engine problems right now and I'm at I don't know 310-330 something close and it sounds like it'll go the other 300 or so without much A do
