Battery Energy Control Module

    Ok, thanks. Did I read somewhere that every three months or so it is wise to just put the battery on the charger?

    I seem to remember reading that on the HA site too. It never appealed to me as I'm really hestitant to add more cycles to the battery unless it is completely necessary. My opinion is that if the battery needs top charging evey 3 months together with bottom charging evey 6 months, then the battery is on it last legs and you're only buyoing time at that point..

    It comes down to the law of diminshing returns.

    I think I have a similar situation with my 2010 Prius which has 192,000 on the original battery. The car sat for several weeks at a time but started and ran fine until one day while driving the dreaded Triangle appeared along with the message "Hyrid System Requires Attention". I was able to drive it home but the ICE ran continuously and there was no regen. A bluetooth OBD reader and the Dr Prius ap yielded a POB080 DTC. I have found numerous mentions of POA080, but scant mention of POB080 aside from a very general "check hybrid system". The next day the car wouldn't start. I eventually ordered a Prolong charger and discharger, went through the recommended three cycles and got the car started, cleared the codes but they came right back and still no hybrid operation. I then took all the bus bars off and and cleaned them up, still no joy. I spoke with one of the aftermarket hybrid battery sellers and was told POB080 indicated a problem with the HV battery control module. What do you guys think? Oh, one more bit of background, I'm about 60 miles west of TomLaNa on the Gulf Coast and it's just as humid here.

    POB080 is not a valid Gen 2 Prius DTC and neither is POA080. I suspect you mean P0A80 for the second.

    Perhaps you could double-check the code.

    As you have a Gen 3, it might be better for you to use the 'Advanced Search' to limit searches to the Gen 3 forums (search child forums as well) and tag on to one of those or even just start your own thread there.
