With all the issues and having an early model year, should I trade in now or wait?

Cheaper to get the EGR cleaned out and keep driving it....

depends on your situation, but a blown head gasket or defective brake actuator are going to cause financial issues, i'd trade up to a 16+ or something else

There was a thread somewhere about around how many miles you should abandon the gen 3

Hm, a bit odd? Is your car giving you issues or do you fear that it will?? Pretty low miles for 2011? And what were the oil change interval's?

love threads with generic descriptions, keeps us guessing what could be wrong with long winded answers.

Well maybe we shall see? He really did not say anything was wrong with the car? He just "fear's," something might happen?

And sure compared to a Gen 2, a Gen 3 is more labor intensive, because at 70'000 miles it would be wise to do "something," with the Gen 3. And the EGR thing and add an OCC, would be it. As opposed to the Gen 2 which at that mileage would most likely need, an oil change? :)

Still it's all relative, back in the day my Porsche 951 Turbo S, would be on it's thrid, Timing Belt change!

To may way of thinking, the Gen 3's have more than enough up grades over the Gen 2, to make that little bit of hassle, more than worth the effort? But hey that's me. :)

11 years and 320k here; zero issues. Keep driving it... yours isn't even broken in! :p

Should the EGR be cleaned at 70k miles? I thought that was early, as EGR cleaning was based on miles, as opposed to years.

Just bring it and park it in my driveway. I’ll put some miles on it and let you know in about 130k.

I cleaned ours at 70k kms. Sure I could have let it slide, but I was curious how it would be, and would prefer to be familiar with the process well in advance of the “desperation” phase.

I think it was worthwhile, and between the experience I’ve gained, and leaving off the lower stud and nut on the cooler, I can see it going much faster/easier next time.

Well your contemplating, dumping a Gen 3, that has not exhibited any issues as far as we know? And now your contemplating, that you feel it's to soon to address a well known, issue with the Gen 3 and the EGR system? The EGR system is not like a "Red Wine?" It does not get better with time. :)

"Today," it's a well known flaw and the sooner you address it the better! Just go ahead and take care of the EGR System now, unless you think it's going to get better with time and miles? If you do plan on keeping the car.
