Has anyone mounted anything below the radio and map pocket?

Well I took apart my dash following the established directions posted elsewhere on PriusChat (suprisingly easy; took about a half hour) in order to remove the pesky map pocket under the radio to be able to slide in my non-motorized 1-DIN sized DWW-700H pop-out touch screen. It ALMOST fit in the space where the map pocket was, but I had to shave a small section of the plastic to get it to slide in. Then guess what happened? At about a thrid of the way in the space, it ran into the two metal hard mesh "arms" that hang down from the radio and bolt the radio unit in at the bottom. Do you knwo what I'm referring to? I need to see if these metal arms can be removed from the area (another dash sisassembly), and then I think the screen will fit in fine. Presto: did you have to deal with this issue?

I already answered the question via PM, but in case other people want to know, the "arms" that are being referred to are the studs that assist in securing the map pocket. I used a rotary tool with a cutting disc to remove them, but a file and some elbow grease would work just as well.

Maybe I'm dense, but what does this display that the MFD doesn't?

How do you get engine information on the MFD. Engine RPM's would be nice to know while driving.

I'm not sure what others are planning, but if you read my post earlier on this thread, you'd see that I intend to put a MacMini somewhere in the car and use a monitor just like seakykr installed to display it. I want my DVD, entire iTunes, etc. displayed, and not bother configuring the MFD for it.

This display is for the output of an in-car computer system. It does it all. Music, movies, gps, wifi etc. The MFD doesn't exactly hook up to a computer easily so the touchscreen is the best option. 2 displays is fine since i can always keep the MFD info up at the same time have something independent on the other screen.

The engine info is from CAN-view which i purchase from the user, eflier. It only works on the 2004 and 2005 model Prius at the moment. You could also get something like a ScanGuage which hooks up to the same port, and have the car info go to a seperate screen.

Gotcha. I'm so brainwashed with the moving lockouts on the MFD that I didn't think about a rolling computer system. Has the Can-View been updated for the 2006 yet? I thought I saw something somewhere.

(Your insurance cover that? :D )

Hey Presto - I PM'd you about whether or not the unit you got has sufficient resolution to run at 800x480 or higher and act as a touchscreen for your PC. I presume so, since it appears that is how you are using it, but I thought I'd ask to make sure as returning it will not be an option if I get one.

Also, did you ever find out more info about your cousin's non-motorized version?

    Thanks for any info!

I put in a digital police scanner hooked to a glass mount antenna at the rear. Had to remove the door and take a dremmel to the frame though- about 2mm too short. I can't really hide it but good luck getting it out- its being held in with 4 steel bolts that you have to remove the whole dash to get to.
