It rained all day yesterday, about an inch of rain but nothing crazy. Today when I opened the hatch, there was water pouring out of the plastic handles on the inside, as well as the latch mechanism. Has anyone had this happen to them? Any suggestions on getting the dealer to fix this under warranty? In the meantime, should I pull off some trim to let things dry out?

iirc, there were some bad window seals on the early prime. not sure about 18.

worth talking to the dealer, and calling toyota. it's a shame that there have been hatch leaks for 20 years.
definitely remove anything wet and put it in the sun

Definitely looks like a bad seal to me. I would not take anything apart. I'd go right to the dealer.

The dealer can't get to it until next week. Are there any panels or parts of the hatch that are easy to pull off? I think just pulling out the two plastic handles would let most of the water out, if they are removable.

Edit: the handles sort of just pull out. And I pulled off a couple covers for the latch mechanism. I don't see any water left in there, thankfully. Nor is there much metal I can see besides the latch mechanism. Everything is carbon fiber/plastic.

Every time I take the car through a high pressure car wash there is water and soap residue on the flat area at the bottom where the hatch closes, but I have noticed no leaks from ordinary rain.

i think they improved the seal. there was a manufacturing installation technical issue earlier on, iirc.

I normally get water collecting on the body colored flat part of the bumper, so it doesn't really get clean in a car wash. But in this case it was the black plastic trim just inside the weather stripping that got wet.

I sprayed the car with a hose for a while before I dropped it off at the dealer, but I wasn't able to replicate the leak. They said they found a seal that was out of place, but they were extremely vague about what they did, so I don't have a lot of confidence that they fixed anything. At least it was free, and if I have a problem after the warranty runs out, maybe I have some chance of making them fix it since I have some documentation of the problem.

I have a 2018 Prius Prime Premium, which I love, BUT water leaks into hatch(metal part),Then when you open hatch water goes towards upper part of hatch (front of car) Then when you close hatch, water flows back down and comes out of the lock and the handle recesses in the inner shroud. The hatch will not fill with water at the car wash or putting garden hose on it anywhere, it only leaks when it rains lightly, or a misty rain, where you would use intermittent wipers. Been to the dealer twice, said they changed all seals, all fixed, NOT !!!!!
