So I was greeted with this tonight, I have no idea how to handle this. The car can’t shift to drive or reverse anymore, and I’ve been greeted with an array of lights. This happened after a little bit of extra acceleration turning down my street.

The only warranty this car has is for the hybrid battery, I’m in a CARB state and purchased from another CARB state so I believe it’s covered under 150k miles. I really don’t want to have to pay for towing and whatever insane cost the dealership is going to charge for repair (after some Googling I’ve seen some people with this error say they had to pay over $2k), that’s going to financially ruin me for the entire month and possibly more. If this is a problem I can fix at home, that would be great. I tried restarting it three times per some suggestions I found to ‘reset’ and that didn’t do anything.

The light on the power button is orange as well. I managed to get into the diagnostic screen and it said the battery was at 12v though shortly after taking that picture it dropped to 11.9.

With that message and the CEL lit, there are codes but not all. software can read them. TechStream is what the Toyota dealers use

Regarding the 12.0 volts displayed in your second picture: maybe check the voltage with a digital multimeter, with the car off, and report.

That's for sure the "low-hanging fruit" something to check first. Is it the original battery? Any episodes of doors left open, needed a jump start?

Almost exactly what I was thinking. That 12.0 on the 12V battery set off the alarm bells in my head. It needs a more careful look before even bothering with codes. A low 12V will really confuse the computers. It may just need a charge overnight, or it might be dying and need a replacement.

The battery died last week after the door was left cracked opem, i removed it and charged it and it ks currently showing 12.6 volts with a multimeter. The Check Hybrid system light is on and now I cannot put it into Drive or a reverse and when i try tk shift into D or R I get an error message to place in park to shift gears. It all happened after we had the dead battery so assume it is something from that.

Just check the 12V battery and see what it's currently holding too and see.

I had a toyota truestart battery in my 2010. Lasted ninetysomething months when it had a 84month warranty. It died early this year I think it was. Replaced with a $200 battery from autozone, only 3 year warranty. I noticed after changing it, my HV battery would actually get a full charge. In the first 2~ years of ownership, it would only go to the 2nd to last bar. (missing 1 bar) Just one day went out to start my car to go to work, upon unlocking it, it half the unlock beep (didn't realize that bit) and then when I tried to start it, it just kinda let out a few relay clicks and that was it. Tried again, nothing at all.

Does your ICE turn on? When you do the full start the inverter turns on but not for accessory start, . Mine puts out like 14.*v, 12.*v in accessory mode.
