Maybe check part no’s for genuine Toyota tail light assemblies (on any official Toyota parts website): if they’re the same for both years, then you’re likely ok?

For older Prius, these kinds of aftermarket parts not only work out fairly well due to the test of time/how long they've been selling them for, but also a great way to save big on the price.

I believe they changed the lights during it's life a bit. Had to do with the less for the brake light, then also the brake light part went from transparent black to clear. But please correct me if I'm wrong here... My guess is that shape is 100% identical. I personally like the early ones with the black brake lights even better than my full clear units. My Prius is black and with the early units the top parts have the same tint as the window.

    Best regards, Nick

yeah, any variation “may” just be cosmetic.

So you are saying that ''just the color is different'' and that these 2004-2005 Prius tail lights will fit a 2008 Prius

I’m speculating, that function and connectors are the same, and the interface with car body hasn’t changed, nor the connection points. It’s a fairly safe gamble, but…

No. Another reason to use Car-part.com is parts interchange.

If you search for tail light for 2008 Prius the interchange parts that fit are 2006-2009. 42 pages of tail lights listed available from salvage yards and they are all 2006-2009.

But go ahead take your chances on the 2004-2005 esp on fitment. All you had to do was input your vehicle to confirm if it will fit. 2008 Prius? No it does not fit.

As well these tail lights are not CAPA certified.

I’ll be straight with you. If you want to try it out you’re probably fine to give it a go, but aftermarket will not have the same fit and finish as OEM 9/10 unless it’s a CAPA certified replacement. I recently bought a 2006 Prius, but didn’t notice one of the taillights were aftermarket like the units you want (Eagle Eye), but they do not fit right and the lines are all off.

EBay isn’t a good place to get headlights / taillights unless you need something really cheap. I just picked up a near mint condition OEM taillight from the junkyard yesterday to replace my ugly OEM taillight for $27. If you need new taillights and don’t care about the black go to a junkyard and find a car that got hit in the front or side so you’ll have mint taillights. It will end up costing you 50% vs EBay OEM, or 80%+ from the dealer.
