Shot Myself in the Foot?

    Hi all! Excited owner of a new-to-me 2007 Prius with 128k on it. I'm pretty handy overall, enjoy working on cars, and want this thing for the long haul.

    I am obviously still unfamiliar with the car, but have been questionable with how the HV battery has been functioning. Seems to drain quick, and Dr. Prius test results (FWIW) weren't great. Does drive good, was able to really gently crawl around town at ~55MPG for a while. On the highway, the battery seems to drain very quick and I'm getting sub-40MPG. Overall MPG is in the low-mid 40's

    Today, I decided to clean the HV cooling fan out, and can tell it probably hasn't been done in a long time, if ever. While reassembling, I dropped a screw under the 12V battery and had to remove that to get to it. Saw it's from 2016.

    After starting the car again and getting on the highway for a test drive, I got the Infamous Red Triangle. The VSC and Yellow-Circle-With-Exclamation-Light also came on. Using an OBD2 bluetooth connector and Dr. Prius, I pulled a P3000 error code, but no subcode.

    Is there a chance anything I did in the process of taking things apart, cleaning the fan, and putting things back together could have triggered the code? Or is it new battery time?

    No it’s the right forum. When reading your post first line said 128,000 miles and I said to myself gonna need a new battery.

    most common thing ever on this site. Use the search forums link up top and search

    hybrid battery

    hundreds of posts there about the battery how to fix it how to replace it and how not to get screwed on the biggest scam going which is a whacka mole repair.

    Lots of YouTube’s on g2 battery issues too. You have alot of reading to do.
    Whatever you do do not get the $400 Craig’s list whack a mole repair where they just replace 1 or 2 of the 28 battery modules and that lasts about 2 months and guess what no warranty….

    Anyway, to avoid any additional foot-shooting, find a way to get the code(s) you didn't get.

    The P3000 that you got (from the HV ECU) is simply a code that tells you there are codes in the Battery ECU, which are what will tell you the actual situation. If you used a code reader that can't show you those, it's worth finding a way to get access to one that can.

    What is the best (affordable) way to pull those subcodes? janky amazon techstream connector? And yeah, didn't want to be too redundant since half this forum is new battery posts. Know that needed to happen, more a question of when than if. Was more curious if what I did cleaning the fan could have any impact there. Thanks y'all!

    OH man..................answered my own question. The P3000 error code will be thrown....if you don't plug the fan back in :eek:
