I know, sounds weird. But my 2007 with 185,000 miles might be up for replacement in the next year or two. I put in a brand new battery 2-3 years ago which is still going strong so I don't want to lose that. I thought it'd be nice to buy a used Prius in good condition, but which has no or a dead battery and I can just put my new one in that. I do look online, CL, etc., but I'm wondering if there are any Prius-specific places I can check out to buy a used car?

If you don't mind buying a "salvaged" car, Steve at www.autobeyours.com in southern Indiana would be likely to set you up with a reliable car using your battery.

This is a rather unique way to approach your "situation".
And probably NOT worth the extra trouble in the end.

Having a "good" battery in your old one should increase your selling price some.......assuming that it really was "new" (not reconditioned) AND that you can document that.

The battery from your '07 might not "fit" whatever newer car that you get.
AND you wouldn't REALLY know if the new one will run right if it doesn't have a battery in it now.

Overall not a good plan in my opinion.

That battery will fit and work in any Gen2 (2004-2009). The set of 28 Modules can be used to replace the modules in the main HV battery from any NiMh-based Prius to date (including my 2020 AWDe).

Keep your eye on government auctions... Due to Covid there were a huge number of government hybrid cars that didn't get used for a year and most governments would rather sell the ones with a bad hybrid battery rather then spend big money at a Stealership getting it replaced.

yeah... Instead of ready aim fire, I was like ready, fire and aim on that one... Oh well... But any comment is a good comment when you're trying to have as many comments as @bisco I mean I need 86K more comments to catch up to him, so...

The important measure is the ratio of likes/messages. I have you beat, Bisco beats us both but several others have us all beaten.

Bisco averages a like every 2.2 comments made and you're every 2.3 comments made and I'm 2.4 comments.

You raise a good point about knowing if it runs right or not. It is a new battery, got it from newpriusbatteries.com, rebuilt it myself with new from the factory modules. True I could get more of a selling price.

I don't know which modules you're talking about exactly, you might be right but the site from which I bought my battery kit, there were separate ones for Gen 2 and Gen 3, if memory works. The modules themselves might be similar or same, don't know.

But you've forgotten the fact that it doesn't actually require Prius knowledge, just a willingness to learn and pretend as though you can be helpful even if deep down you know you can't really help that much.

Yes, correct... The Modules are the same but the mounting hardware has a different configuration...

If we could track how much money we've saved Prius owner's that's always what matters in a capitalist society! :) Also if we could correlate that number with how often we've wasted people's valuable time, as well as how much of our own valuable time we've wasted and then crunch all those numbers and we could get a solid ROI data set and @bisco would probably still win...

Well since this has gotten waaay off topic I will try to help the OP.

Not sure of a place that sells the prius without a battery, but I bet if you could find one with a battery that needs replacing. The issue will be what to do with your current one when it has a dead battery. What about just finding a prius thats nicer and you like, buy that one and swap batteries then sell the old one. That way you have the prius you want and a good battery. Im not sure if its worth the trouble or time but that varies depeneding on the person.

Whats actully wrong with your current one? Im guessing just beat up exterior or interior? Mines got 260k miles now and it runs great.

    Good luck!
