Was at an intersection and a guy hit the gas rather than the brake and slammed into my 2017 Prius V. Insurance has been dragging their feet for 5 weeks trying to determine if it's totaled. I wanted to get your opinion. The body shop stated there is some kind of error message on the system that they are having trouble removing so they're sending the car to the dealership to get the error message removed before they can determine the extent of the damage? The whole situation is really confusing for me. The side airbags deployed but luckily no one was seriously injured. We love our Prius and are hoping it can somehow be saved. What do you guys think? I uploaded some photos. Thank you!

What is the code they can't resolve?

They didn't tell me exactly what the code said. They said it was a system error of some kind. They said they couldn't clear it and it'd have to be cleared by the Toyota Service center.

Not driving any code, likely, but right rear camber is WAAAY out.

I'm advertising my ignorance but what do you mean by rear camber? I thought the wheel looks bent. They said that where it was hit is near where the battery is. Do you know if that's true?

He is stating the obvious by saying the wheel alignment (camber being one measure) is off. We are good at that kind of deduction. The batteries are both back there and could easily be damaged. Getting a new hv battery from their insurance could be a win.

Asking for the scanner codes that could not be reset ould help us provide more useful opinions.

Yes, the wheel and tire should essentially 'stand' perpendicular to the road, to keep the tire friction surface in optimal contact with the road, which is neutral, or zero camber. We would call what is evident on the right rear of your car 'negative camber', the top of the right rear tire and wheel pushed in several inches toward the centerline of the chassis and cargo compartment, meaning the right rear tire loading is mostly on the interior face of the friction surface. The amount of negative camber suggests to me that the rear hub or rear axle beam or possibly both were bent in the collision. Beneath the cargo compartment floor is the traction battery tray, which could have been compromised by the hit. There are also likely toe-in problems at the right rear, but first things to look at are the right rear hub and rear axle beam.

I found out more information about the codes. The garage said that the precollision system malfunction code is showing and all lights on the dash are lit. could that mean that there is an issue with the battery? They think that it's because the airbags are deployed. Does that make sense to you guys?

Or a pre-collision system sensor is toast, as a result of the hit.
