Well, I've already seen one case where the confirmation-pattern steps in one edition of the manual weren't correct. It didn't matter how many times I followed the wrong steps, the code was always still there. Pretty frustrating.

I'm happy to have my code gone now, after Elektroingenieur found the right steps in a later edition of the manual.

You have Techstream, right? For ECM codes, there's an All Readiness utility that lets you enter a DTC and look up the current status of its monitor. P0A80 isn't an ECM code, and it doesn't look like there's a similar utility for the battery smart unit. Too bad. It's also no help that all of the enabling conditions for P0A80's monitor are "TMC's intellectual property", as are the malfunction thresholds.

So either the monitor is running and not getting a normal result (because of some secret malfunction threshold), or it just hasn't been able to run yet at all (because of some secret enabling condition). If it had run and found an abnormal result, I think it would have set a new pending or current code. So if that hasn't happened, I think it just hasn't run.

Because of all the "TMC's intellectual property" involved, this might be kind of an impasse, unless again there is some later manual edition, or a TSB or technical guide or something, that coughs up a few more details.

Are there any other DTCs at all, from any area of the car?

You did make sure the Universal Trip lasted at least ten minutes from engine start?

The universal trip was at least 10min even though Parker said 5min. In TechStream it says there is a code for one of my tire sensors that broke. Good news is I found a guy that passed my vehicle inspection/smog for $200. So now it’s been sent to the DMV :)

the 3rd gen prius - head gasket, egr cleaning and 'low friction piston rings' (that are a little too low friction) ...
those are the big 3 i've heard about 2010 .. but seems something got a little better in later years of 3rd gen? or they went to 4th gen fast ?

With computers electronically pulling the info / data from the vehicle for electronic transmission to DMV, I'm not exactly sure how that would even be done, but congrats!

He had this trippy software on a laptop that looked like the Matrix text and it read “I am a Simulation” he said it was a hacking tool. Difficult to do but he pulled it off

25 mph for 5 min is correct for step 3 of the universal trip. But there is also step 4, "Allow 10 minutes or more to elapse from the time the engine is started." I was just checking that you hadn't missed step 4.

I had a friend that had it done twice. It can happen but much harder. Especially in California

I had the same issue, HV threw a code so I replaced the module and had the permanent code still there.

Was able to pass smog even though permanent code was present, I live in the high desert if anyone has same issue and wants to try the shop that passed me, as long as check engine light is off you should be good to go.

The code eventually went away after I replaced the HV pack with the Dr. Prius Lithium upgrade battery.

This takes thousands of miles not 10 minutes.
Also every time you try to erase the code, this process starts all over so accept you have the code and drive it.

You would speak with a local California BAR referee, an appointment may be needed, though dropping to 'ask a question' may work as well.
