My 2012 Prius seems to start and drive just fine. The left side of the instrument panel works fine (e.g. the speedometer and gas gauge work fine). But the right side is dark. That's where you'd see the odometer, the graphical energy saving animation, and maintenance alert messages.

I took it to my mechanic, but he said I should check with a dealer because he thought there might be a recall? But searching this forum, I only see information about older models or folks who lost the LEFT side of the instrument panel, not the right.

Any thoughts on this issue or costs to fix? Thanks so much!

Update: The right side is still out. I took to a Toyota dealer. They said there is no recall for a 2012. They said I need a new "combination meter" and the cost is $1400!!

I've noticed other threads on this site where the LEFT side goes out (where the fuel gage and speedometer go out). But my left side works fine. The car is fine in all ways except no RIGHT side (which is where you'd see the clock and odometer). It seems crazy to spend $1400 just to get those back. I asked an independent mechanic and he told me that I would have to have a dealer do it because they need to "program" the part for my car?

Any suggestions on a solution cheaper than $1400?

check the 12v health, as low voltage might cause this problem.

once that's cleared away, you can buy a rebuilt combo meter from texas hybrid batteries (they program the odometer to match yours)
installation is a pia, that's why the dealers get around a grand in labor. ask you mech how much to install.

    all the best!(y)

Thanks! I will check on the 12v health. I went to Texas Hybrid. They list combination meters for older Prius models, up to 2009. Don't see 2012. So I sent them an email to see. Thanks again.

Any luck with this? My odometer/clock/hybridsystem side of the combo meter is also out. Speedometer side works fine though. Is there a fuse I can pull to turn it on-and-off? I've checked the 12v and it's fine. Yelp!
