It never ceases to amaze me. I recently changed my oil for the first time in a year and a half thanks to pandemic non-driving (yes, yes, I know I should have changed it by time anyway, regardless of miles, but it didn't happen. Anyway.) So the last time that plastic cap was touched was November 2019 and I was wondering if it would give me trouble after that long, but I was the one who tightened it to 18 ft-lb back in 2019, and it came right off without any drama whatever. But all these stories I hear ....

Why aren't you making THEM fix what THEY broke? At the least, tell them you're going to fix it and then they'll have to reimburse you what you spent.
You can buy the replacement bracket for just $95 at the McGeorge Toyota website (it's $141 retail) and don't replace the oil filter cap with the black plastic, get the aluminum.

I haven't seen anything that makes it look like a big deal. You buy the thing and two O rings, loosen four bolts, remove the old thing and both its O rings, put on the new O rings and the new thing, and tighten the bolts to 19 ft-lb.

Some people would replace the thing with the spin-on-style thing as in #2, but I doubt the procedure is any different.

Strictly speaking, those four bolts are also four of the 25 bolts holding the timing cover in place, and when you're assembling the engine, you're supposed to make sure the thing is installed within 10 minutes of the timing cover itself, and left undisturbed for two hours for the form-in-place timing cover gasket to cure.

Replacing just the thing might carry a tiny tiny chance of disturbing the FIPG seal there and creating a slight timing cover oil leak, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone report a problem. The FIPG is pretty well cured by now, and if you're not disturbing the other 21 bolts holding the cover in place, I don't see much chance for a problem.

Note, the above part no's vary from @rjparker list, but they're just older versions, and 100% compatible. The main piece for example, mine has a sort of tear drop protrusion, at 6 o'clock. Works the same.

Lol... Sounds like the place that broke your car is gaslighting you and making you want to blame someone else for their mistake. Even if the cap was on too tight, removing it doesn't cause it to break unless you're incompetent. Ignore their excuses and keep pressing them to repair it! If they won't, fill out a form on the Better Business Bureau website, that usually gets the boss/owner's attention in ways that other efforts won't.

Racerman, I highly recommend ordering the conversion kit that rjparker showed you. Its easy, simple and the oil filter is much easier to remove. I did the conversion and I love it! Hated the plastic cannister.

+1 on the spin on filter conversion. Takes about 10 minutes. I got the parts from Amayama, too. When I bought my 2010 used with 115K miles the filter was welded on by a Jiffy Lube chimpanzee-had to get dealer to remove it. I tried with a long breaker bar and it would not budge. Spin on filter is fast and easy!

Did mine two years, ago. I had a brand new canister and filter and sold it with the adapter for $100. So, the total for the conversion cost me about $50 and a half hour of work.
